If you could have any person who you have ever heard be the voice directing you through your GPS navagation device, who would it be and why?

Asked by ekans (1534points) December 18th, 2009

Anybody who you have ever heard speak; famous people, loved ones, fictional characters(only from media with audio), etc… Who would you pick? Remember, it has to be somebody that you have heard. You can’t pick somebody like Napoleon just to find out what he sounded like
If you don’t have a GPS system, just imagine that you do.
Prompted by the fact that Snoop Dogg recently made a recording for TomTom GPS systems.

I wish my voice sounded like his.

Patrick Stewart. He has a great voice and after I entered my destination, entered my coordinates, he would say “Make it so.” I would love that.

Definitely Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, using her voice of the Starship Enterprise computer.

I thought it might be prompted by the recent Doonesbury storyline.

Hirano Aya (In her Kagami role)
Tamagawa Sakiko (In her Tachikoma role)

ragingloli's avatar

@ETpro Oh yes, definitely. But it does have to have the computer beep sounds too.

My Mom. She was good at giving directions and usually pointed me in the right direction on many things. It would be nice to hear her voice again.

ETpro's avatar

@ragingloli. Definitely needs the computer sounds, and it has to say WOrking whenever you ask it a question.

smartfart11's avatar

My mom! Actually, no, that would be a terrible thing! She was the one who taught me how to drive, and I don’t think I could go through that again. (Sorry, mama)
I would choose my friend Jo, though. She has the coolest voice ever. And if that ever got annoying, I would want a variety of famous persons I could choose from. Like Jane Lynch.

HighShaman's avatar

I wouldn’t mind hearing Howard Cosell telling me where to go….

Marilyn Monroe. Because her voice was so damn sexy.

@aprilsimnel Alan Rickman, mmm… if Patrick Stewart isn’t available… I love Alan Rickman. I fell absolutely “madly” in love with him in Truly Madly Deeply and have never quite gotten over it.

lfino's avatar

We’ve actually talked about this before when we first got our GPS. I think a sterotypical Redneck would be great!

aprilsimnel's avatar

Oh, I forgot to say why. OK.

Well, Alan Rickman; I mean, he’s just got a knicker-melting-ly smooth baritone.

Michael Palin because his is a comforting voice. I’ve literally heard it in some form or another for 30+ years.

Stephen Fry because he’s got a very erudite voice. I’d love a little monologue from him about my destination. I’d expect no less from the man with a brain the size of Kent.

Jim Carrey and let him surprise me each time with a different voice so I’d stay awake.

Ansible1's avatar

Michael Dorn doing the voice of Worf, and he must refer to me as Captain….

“Captian, you have arrived at your destination!”

deni's avatar

@Ansible1 hahah i would love to be called Captain someday. What I’m saying is, someday I hope to drive a boat.

lonelydragon's avatar

Alan Rickman. However, I’d be so entrhalled by his voice that I’d probably never reach my destination! I’m sure that everyone would get tired of hearing me say “Alan Rickman made me late again”.
