Why does granola give me nightmares if I eat it at bedtime?
Sometimes a snack before bed helps me sleep, but granola or peanut butter right before bed gives me nightmares, why is that?

Perhaps they’re too difficult for your digestive tract to process at night. Do you have the same problem with hot oatmeal?
There is really no reason for “Granola” to give you nightmares etc….
Are you watching scary stories , movies etc before going to bed ?
Talk to your doctor…..
I think your confusing it with Welsh Rarebit, which I wouldn’t recommend eating even without the dreams.
Have you determined that it is those foods that are causing this? Some experimentation and substitution may be in order.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why, there are many factors involved into what causes dreams and more importantly whether you remember them. I think there has been some evidence that high fatty, high energy foods increase activity in the brain, thus more dreams/nightmares.
But why exactly it would cause nightmares instead of normal dreams isn’t known. Perhaps some sort of protein in fatty foods acts on the brains chemicals maybe suppressing the neurotransmitter serotonin. In the end it’s all speculation.
It has a very high sugar content. Ingesting sugar that close to bedtime can cause nightmares when your blood sugar levels drop as you sleep.
The Obama Granola does the same thing to me.
No one can force you to eat it. Just leave mine alone.
@pdworkin You are correct sir. I, and my children and grandchilrden, are only being forced to pay for it.
I bet your nightmares of you suffocating…it is all because the peanut butter is gluing your mouth closed making it hard for you to breath and the granola crumbs in the bed surely are making it uncomfortable to sleep. I hate crumbs in the bed!!
