When I X out of a window, all of my open windows close...Why and how can I fix it?

Asked by Perchik (5002points) February 27th, 2008

[Windows Xp]

I regularly have multiple windows open. If I right click on them from the start bar and click close, it will close just that window. However, if I click on the x in the corner, everything that is opened gets closed. I do get prompted to save open documents, clicking cancel keeps it open, but the things like firefox that do not have an “open document” just get closed .Any idea what is causing this and how I can fix it?

What is your current anti virus setup?

strange, did you run a virus scan?

I’ve run virus, spyware and adware scans and nothing has been found.

weird, no clue!

That’s just odd, i’ve never heard of such a thing. are you sure it is due to clicking the x? maybe you are using up way more memory than you have and your system is shutting them down itself. although I have never heard of it doing that. I’m just making guesses.

I’ve got 2gb ram, 180gb hd at 50% full .. I’ve never heard of it either, thats why I was asking. I was hoping someone might have ran across it before. Only thing I can figure is that some .dll that handles closing windows has been corrupted.

there is a bunch of shareware to do just this.. maybe install it and see what it changes?
