Why didn't soldiers of the past get the benefits we get now?
Soldiers of the World wars etc., the ones that survived and while they were still active didn’t get what we have now, why is this? One would think with all they did, they would be looked out for by their own country.

What are you talking about? The GI Bill after WWII provided low cost mortgages, and free college to all GIs. The GI benefits of the past were BETTER than they are now.
a bunch of morons were in charge!!! ... wait a minute, that hasn’t changed :s
Well I guess serving your country was underrated back in the day
I believe that SOME things are better and SOME benefits are worse…. depending on when and what you are talking about…..
My dad benefited greatly from the GI Bill, starting in 1946. It enabled him to become a CPA, it underwrote the mortgage on his home, which eventually became his only wealth, and the VA treated his malaria. I don’t remember him having any complaints.
Wow very nice! Allow me to apologize, I’m just going off of a few situations that have happened in the past. Soldiers not being treated, or not getting any benefits and becoming homeless and such.
I served during peace time (‘78 – ‘84) and I have got a VA card for medical. I know some Viet Nam vets who were refused service at the VA for medical, mental heath. I don’t understand it. I didn’t think I would be eligible for ANY benefits since I didn’t serve during wartime and I didn’t retire. I missed the GI Bill by a year or two. But it’s a good question that I can’t answer.
Because socialism now rules. Marixm is the winner in all areas of our government. Our society has come to see government as a cash cow. Punch it, out comes money.
Oooh, that Marixim gets me so steamed!
