Whats wrong with my cat ?

Asked by dirtydevil521 (126points) December 19th, 2009

So my cats were eyes are leaking a watery substance when i came home. I wiped her face with a towel and the watery substance seems to have stopped. I would just like to know if there is a chance that she is going blind or if she was just crying ? She’s a very old cat ( she’s 16 in human) and i’m just curious any answer would be helpful thank you…

Cats do not cry. Take her to the vet.

@holden, that’s a great name for a jazz band, since I’m doing that tonight: Cats Don’t Cry™

Gosh, now if I could just carry a tune…

She may have an infection in her eyes. Definitely take her to the vet.

like holden said cats don’t cry. They lack the tear ducks to do so. She could have an eye infection or a URI (uper respatory infection) and she could need meds. I would also suggest you taking her to the vet.

It sounds like the beginning of an infection. Since she is an older cat, she may not have the same resistance as a younger cat so it’s important that you get the jump on it before it gets worse.

With an older animal, prompt vet care is especially crucial. Take her asap. Don’t just let it linger.

My cat had a brownish discharge for years, the vet said some cats do this

Watery eyes may be a sign of an irritant, an allergy, or a conformation issue. If she’s not squinting and the discharge is clear, don’t worry about it unless it gets worse.

But remember that there will be very thin services on Thurs. and perhaps only ER ones on Xmas day.

I am such a worry wart about my cat that I dragged him to vet’s, thinking perhaps that he (cat) had mange. The vet laughed and said that it was cat-pattern baldness on cheeks and that he (vet) had the same problem

For himself or for his cat?

I’ve never heard of that. I did have one cat who had extremely sparse hair in the area between atop her eyes to the ears but had always been that way even when very young. I’ve seen a lot of photos with other gray cats with the same.

But usually the cats cheeks are pretty full and fuzzy. Did he say what causes this.

Is it inherited like male pattern baldness in humans?

The vet took off his baseball cap and showed me his sparse hairline. We were laughing too hard to discuss causation. We never had the pleasure of knowing Milo when he was young; my daughter adopted him from a shelter.

The rest of his pelt is luxuriant and ultra-thick. Who knows?

One of my cats has an eye that does that. It could be a number of things URI or some cats that do that sometimes have a tomur behind the eye. best to take her to the vet.
