If you gift for the holidays, did you make more of your purchases in person at a store or online?
I am continually amazed I can call around in frustration checking for items in stores to find them not carried or backordered but online they’re available, most with free shipping, gift wrap and guaranteed delivered before Christmas Day. What’s the point of dealing with traffic or making a drive anymore?

I make my purchases in person. I do not have a card to use online, and I don’t really trust them to have the gift sent by Christmas.
So far it’s mostly been online, but I’m not finished yet & it’s getting too late to ship, so…:-/
Online, for the most part. I’ll gladly pay shipping if I have to, to avoid the crush of people & fighting to get a parking place. You have more choices online, too. So much more convenient.
Never make purchases online. its not safe. hackers love to retrieve your information and sell it to other people. in-store purchases only here.
I prefer to go in person to the store to buy something.
I want to check it out and make sure that I am getting my monies worth….
In person: I hardly ever give gifts straight from the store. Usually it’s buy a few things, then do stuff to them, so I like to make sure that everything is going to work together the way I think it will. Also, a lot of the stuff gets bought half-way through the project when I realize I need it right now!
I always try to make as many purchases as I can online. I only go to the store when the item is not available online.
Easier and that way if I’m getting something for someone that lives far away I can send it directly to them
In stores. After past experiences, I no longer trust online shops to ship the gifts on time.
Online.
Last min. in person.
In store
why bother paying extra for shippping and handling.
and I much rather keep folks working.
and I did find awesome deals in store than online. $3 sweatshirts at Old navy and $ 2 t -shirts at Graden Ridge.
and thank goodness for the Dollar sotre I do not know where else you find wrapping papper and tape for a buck,
I went yesterday to ToysRUs to purchase some basic Barbie things. They didn’t have, nor were the markers on the shelves for:
Barbie carrying case
Barbie shoes, hangers, accessories
Generic brand furniture sets
Dolls of color—all dolls were white, with blonde hair
Clothing for Ken doll
Male doll of color
Any Barbie vehicle or furniture that did not require the purchase of a doll.
I do all my shopping for my relatives, who live halfway across the country, online. It saves me a trip to the post office. Usually I order from Amazon, where we have the “free” two-day shipping. We order from them a lot because of my husband’s business, so the membership fee to get that free shipping is worth it to us.
Most of the rest of our holiday shopping is done in stores unless I find a really good deal online. For example, our daughter asked for a good digital camera this year. I found a brand new Nikon CoolPix for much less than anywhere else, plus a stand-alone Canon printer at 60% off. I was able to get both of those things for the usual cost of just the camera. It made my day! Those deals were online. Everything else for the kids and my husband’s family is either bought in stores or homemade.
Tomorrow I’m hitting a lot of the local shops for stocking stuffers and gift basket fillers. I doubt I’ll find great prices there, but I think it’s important to buy locally when possible. I just hope I make it out of our local bookstore with buying gifts for myself. That place is way too tempting.
I make my own greeting cards and gifts throughout the year, except sending checks to my three adult grandsons.
I never purchase gifts. I make them all.
@SirGoofy: I don’t understand it when people say that. You have to buy the ingredients don’t you? Whether you’re making food, crafts, or anything, even if you grow it yourself in your garden, you probably still need to buy seeds, and thus the question still applies.
@La_chica_gomela Not necessarily. I get nearly all my supplies as donations from people who know that I donate most of the items to charities, and some supplies from Freecycle.org and some from yard sales, so no stores and no online.
@YARNLADY: So people give you supplies thinking you’ll use them for charities, and then you give them to your friends? Or are you saying that you only use items from yard sales to make gifts for your friends and family? Then my point would still apply, you buy it from somewhere, a yard sale.
@La_chica_gomela Yes, I only use items I buy from yard sales for family gifts. However, the questions doesn’t mention anything about yard sales, or did I miss something?
I’m talking about what I said. You neglected to mention that you do buy things. (And I think a yard sale could be considered a kind of store)
@La_chica_gomela You mean thus the question still applies? How does store or online apply to yard sale?
@YARNLADY: The reasons I already stated: You are still buying stuff. A yard sale is a kind of store. Even if it wasn’t, the question obviously means online versus in person, and clearly you are buying your stuff from yard sales in person. This whole thing with you is getting really tedious for me, so after this, I’m not following the question. No offense.
@La_chica_gomela So we are seeing a different interpretation of at a store or online. I thought at a store probably meant “at a store” but if you think it means “in person” then that explains why we are saying two different things.
