Has anyone heard about the underground city of Derinkuyu in Turkey?

Asked by Ailia (1363points) December 20th, 2009

Someone sent me this link about this recent find in Turkey and I thought you all should check it out. It is amazing. What do you all think about it?

They had a program on it last week on the history channel. It is a place I would like to see.

here is what that link took me to.

Derinkuyu is in the Cappadocia region, which has all sorts of interesting places to stay that are in caves. I would love to be able to take that trip one day!

Please redo the link, @Ailia. That one goes to Google docs, as @ccrow noted.

I jfg’d it. Very cool looking place. I’d like to take a year or two off and go explore that one and the others.

@Jeruba @ccrow That is exactly what the link is supposed to show. Its really a slide show but I don’t know how to show it as a slide show so I just provided the same link that they gave me. Sorry. But everything is all there though, all you need to do is scroll down.

@Ailia, this is all it says on the linked page:

Google docs

Create and share your work online
# Upload from and save to your desktop
# Edit anytime, from anywhere
# Pick who can access your documents
# Share changes in real time
# Files are stored securely online
# It’s free!
# Take a tour – New Features

And there’s a video called “Google docs: A love letter.”

That’s it.

However, I did find a slide show by Googling the topic myself. Interesting. Apparently this information has been out there for some years, but I never heard of it before. I can’t help wondering if we could use a few more of those.

@Jeruba Oh, the link @ccrow showed me worked on my computer. Sorry about that. @ccrow Did you find another link? If not here it is

Underground city… pheh… I just know I’m getting 5 points for this answer.

Ailia's avatar

@Tomfafa Why the unenthusiasm? Did you read about the city itself? It is really quite amazing. Or were you being sarcastic?

Tomfafa's avatar

@Ailia Yes… I was being a wise ass… sorry… I did read about it and it seems to be a home for some rich guy. I think it could be the worlds first bomb shelter. I honestly enjoyed the marvel of it. Thank you.

No, but I have done extensive travel overseas. Thanks for the info. Might want to go there.

When venturing into any underground city you must beware of the morlocks.
