How can I find a professional photographer in my area who has a specific style I like?

I want to get some professional pictures taken of my family, but it’s really difficult to find a suitable photographer. So many of them (especially the chains!) take awful pictures which I could do myself at home with a single use camera.
I’m looking for somebody who takes photos like this: http://www.galhousephotography.com/index2.php?v=v1 but I don’t live anywhere near VA… and I have no idea how to find a photographer like that locally without calling every entry in the phone book. I’ve tried Google searches, but they didn’t yield much of an outcome.

Try googling it. Just type in “photographer” and the name of your city.
Boy, I don’t know. I might be worth your time to go to VA. When I first saw the photos I thought. Well, that’s gonna cost you some money, to get photos of that quality, in that style, but her rates don’t look that bad at all, for that quality. Link, but @jaytkay‘s advice is probably more useful.
Many, many photographers maintain websites with their portfolios so that you can see in advance if you like their work. I’d try Craigslist, too.
I’m going to say Google too. Most good photographers have websites showing their work. Try Googling the genre/s of photography you’re interested in aith your city or area name included in the search.
I would try a college, and finding the photography majors. Find a nearby art college (they’re all over the US, probably more if you’re in California) and find someone young, give them that portfolio and see how comfortable they feel taking those pictures. College majors are the freshest and most dynamic in style.
