What is your opinion on the Carry On movies and the humor they represent?
I’m not sure if the Carry-On films translate very well over the world so it would be interesting to hear from folks around the globe here.
Carry-On…..... British classic comedy films.
Carry_On_
They made a total of 31 Movies from 1958 to 1992 and some TV episodes too. (one of the movies counted was a compilation of clips but is still “classed” as a film) and I LOVE ‘em!
I love the Double entendres, the “postcard” humour, and the slapstick comedy in the films, they are so silly they are fun to watch.
My favourite is one of the older films: Carry On Cruising. But truth be told I like them all really.
Sid James’s Laugh is classic!
So what’s your favourite Carry On Movie?
Who’s your favourite Carry on Actor?
What do you find funny about them?
or don’t you get the humour….......?

I loved them!! I think my favorite was Carry on Nurse, but I haven’t seen any of them for a while. I was thinking about the movies some months ago. I think you can get the complete collection in a boxed set now but it is expensive. I don’t remember how much. Maybe someday. They used to show them on T.V. a lot when I was growing up, but they’re hardly on in the U.S. anymore.
Does the Comedy in the films translate well in the U.S.? I have heard there are some british comedies / comedians that dont travel well.
What I love about the carry pn films is that they are “harmless” and while totally politically incorresct now, the were idiosyncratic of thier place and time!
(Wow a big word! lol)
watched “Carry On At Your Convenience” today on G.O.L.D (sky) and they showed “Carry On Loving” right after it too :-) wonderful!!!! They are a brilliant reminder of growing up and they make me smile and feel good like few things can. They’re amazingly politically incorrect little gems that are very, very of their time and all the more fabulous because of it. Love, love, love them.
My favourites are Kenneth Williams, Sid James and the beautiful and amazing Hattie Jacques. Fave movies include, well who am I kidding all of them but faves include Carry on Henry, Carry on Loving, Carry on Regardless, Carry on Screaming (“frying tonight!!! lol) Carry on Dick, Carry on Cruising, Carry on Cabby….. the list goes on and on. Only one I REALLY didn’t like was Carry on Columbus <shudder> it stunk badly. Whoever came up with the idea of making a Carry on when all of those wonderful talents had been sadly gathered and moved on from this life was an absolute wally.
hugs all xx
Well I’m from Ireland so British comedy isn’t in any way obscure. I liked the Carry On films. I watched them a lot with my Dad when i was 11 or 12.
I loved them, I’m Canadian, does that make a difference? I do tend to like most British humor.
Lurve them they are funny an relevant to the time they were made, some things they say are a bit on the near to the knuckle side but you have to appreciate them for what they are!!
