Bassett Hound can't use his back legs this morning - any experience with this?
11 year old Bassett just drags his back legs under/behind him. No falls or trauma known to have happened. He’s pretty lazy; I’ve only seen him run once when trying to get the piece of toast that my daughter had thrown to the floor. lol
Seriously, I am taking him to the vet, but I’d like to hear of your experiences with this while waiting for the appointment. Thanks!

Uh-oh…possible hip displasia. Take that doggie to the VET! TODAY!!
My concern is disc disease – neurologic deficits are bad news. Keep him restrained in a crate until you get him to the vet, which should be ASAP.
This happened to our cat. It ended up being diabetes.
When it happened to our cat late one night, he had had a heart attack. We had no idea how far he’d dragged himself home that way, but it looked like it must have been some distance.
We took him to the emergency nighttime vet right away (no appointment—just called ahead and went as fast as we could). He died that night.
Apparently he had had a greatly enlarged heart. The doc expressed surprise that he had lived to a year and a half. He’d been a stray kitten adopted by our older cat, so we didn’t know his history. The older cat grieved for a long time.
@Jeruba Most cats owners never know that their cat has hypertrophic cadiomyopathy until it’s too late. What you are describing was most likely a thromboembolism (a clot). I lost my own Maine Coon to the same disease.
@Megan64 Feline diabetic neuropathy is fairly commonly seen in uncontrolled diabetics, but I haven’t seen it in dogs yet.
@Jeruba sorry for your loss.
@syz Hope you wouldn’t see feline neuropathy in a canine. :)
@BizzyDitch Wishing for the best!
