If you found a suitcase stuffed with money, what would you do?
Consider it’s at least 150,000 dollars.
Would you turn into the police?
Would you keep the money?
What do you think is the right thing to do?
What would be your initial response?

Get it back to the drug dealer who lost it before he kills me.
Damn… if I lived on my own I would keep it, but considering I live with a mother and grandmother I would turn it in.
it depends… if it has a name on it, I’d definitely find the owner, if not, I’d keep half for me, half for charity…
Well, I think I deserve a reward, so I’ll just keep it.
The right thing for me to do, is to keep it. How many honest people, are going to lose a suitcase full of money? No identification on it, I’m keepin it!
Bring it to a lost and found office. According to §971 BGB I have a legal claim to a reward equalling 5% of the first 500$ plus 3% of the rest, in that case 4510$. Sounds like a nice return for honesty.
(I am also bound by law to return it anyway.)
And according to § 973 BGB, 6 months after I brought it to the lost and found office, under the condition that the owner has neither been identified nor has he contacted the office, I become the legal owner of the find.
I would go out and drink 3,000,000 nickel beers.
not all at once
interesting question…. I’d definitely donate some, give dad some because he deserves it so much, and then keep the rest so I can pay off loans (or not have to take them in the first place) and live my life without financial worries. Sounds like a lot of money but something tells me it would go prettyyy quickly
I’m selfish. I’d keep it. It’s not my problem that the owner wasn’t very responsible with his suitcase.
I would run an ad saying that I had found a “Container” of money.
IF they could identify the “Container” and the money .. by ammount, how it is packaged etc… then ; I’d give it back…
If no one could identify the money properly; I’d deposit it in my own account and donate to certain charities and keep the rest for my own bills etc .
@Blondesjon good thing!
Do you want the honest answer, or the answer of what I would tell someone else to do? :)
If there were a speck of identification in there, I would tryo to find the owner or bring it to the police. If there weren’t, I would pocket some, then bring it to the police. God, I can’t believe I said that out loud!
I would tell anyone that they should bring it to the police.
Depends. How nice is the suitcase?
I’d hide it under my bed and dip into it as needed.
Wow, well, I think the first thing I would do is, hesitate, then look around to see if anybody is watching or saw…
Then I think I would be scared, and then as fast as I could, run home. I would then show my sister, and family, I guess we would decide what to do with it at that point together. (I’m horrible at decisions like that and need others to help me make it, it could stay in my conscience)
Ummm, I’d WANT to keep it, but that may not be what is done. But if I were to keep it, I’m sure I’d invest the money to help my goal of becoming rich/wealthy. And then, when I’m wealthy, I would donate to charity.
Honestly, I’m not really sure what I would do in that situation…. I guess I would only know if it ever happened to me. The right thing would probably be to tell the police, but….. ... yeah…. very tempting.
I would just hold on too it, for about a week or so, and wait and see if anyone claims it.
Discard the money and take a trip with my new suitcase.
First, I’d hide it in my basement (in a fireproof Sentry safe..I’m not a total dumb-ass) for about a year or so until whoever lost it figures out that it’s gone for good. Then I’d slowly deposit it into a bunch of different banks a little at a time. Then I’d leave it there for another year or so. Finally, I’d pay off my mortgage and buy a car.
I’d take a few hundred dollars out of it and then I’d turn it into the police station.
what money i didn’t see any money….seriously i grab that and RUN!!

I would do the right thing and turn it in to the police!! The person who lost it might have just got a loan or something and was transferring it to another bank or instition. It might have been going to somplace who needed it for a nursing home, or a place for the homeless. I could not live with myself knowing that someone might have been going to use it for a needy institution! You never know how good you have it, until you see someone who doesn’t have anything.
How many legitimate people carry around that much cash?
Except for the eccentric wealthy and lottery winners.
I am sort of with @pdworkin on this one.
I also am with @pdworkin I’d be too afraid that it was drug money. I’d get to the police and off my hands as soon as possible. Plus, if it was legitimate money, it wouldn’t be mine. Keeping it would be stealing, and I’m not a thief.
Buy Real estate property lol Mansions, investment property, commercial buildings etc…
I’m with @LeotCol, I’d dip into it and then turn it in. I’m broke as a joke so a couple hundred dollars would make a huge difference in my life right now. If I took a thousand, I could even pay my tuition next semester. And that’s not even 1/100 of the money in the suitcase. I couldn’t stomach keeping all of it, though.
I wouldn’t touch it, just let the sherriff know where it was.
I would keep it and lock it up in a safe and gradually use it over time as walkaround money for like grocerys, takeaway etc.
Gee, I’d thought more people had read or seen No Country for Old Men.
Either police or charity hopefully I would have that much willpower
It depends on the situation.
I would most likely attempt to return it to it’s rightful owner. I would not want to give it to people who could not prove it was theirs.
My Parents once found a suit case filled with money on a plane. They told the stewardess . They found a young Honeymoon couple who claimed it. They were not thankful. They were rude. The stewardess remarked that they should have rewarded my Parents and thanked them .
People like this couple make me feel like saying I would keep it. Unfortunately I am by nature to honest to do that.
Ok, now the truth.
I would take my clothing off. Dump the money on the bed, rolling all over it.
Hugging and kissing it. Telling it how much I love it. Oooo baby, you are so sweet.
Then I would shower. ;-)
Put the money back in sequential order. Put in shoe boxes, hiding it VERY well.
And yes… I would keep it. As much as it would kill me to do so.
@Pseudonym well you can buy a house in Riverside or lake Elsinore
All my bags are packed I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin’ it’s early morn
The taxi’s waitin’ he’s blowin’ his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could die
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go
Cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane
Don’t know when I’ll be back again
i would get to the top of the tallest nearby building within the city and in the middle of the day open the suitcase over the edge of building and watch the money rain down on the streets below. what a sight that would be….
Look for the hidden cameras…this has got to be a setup.
Can you say Bait Car?
Note to self: Do not ever lost a suitcase full of money, with or without ID. lol
