Have you flown Ethiopian Airlines or Egypt Air? Are they safe?
I’m flying from Europe to Ghana in a few weeks on Ethiopian Air, and flying back on Egypt Air in March. I’m in a big “debate” now with my mother about whether these are airlines are safe and whether I need to re-book. Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks!

I’ve flown Ethiopian Airlines.
Their in flight dinner was a joke, also no utensils were provided. However they dont need to have a maximum weight limit for their flight attendants.
My roommate has been to Cairo twice to visit one of our friends who has moved there. She likes the service very much.
I did witness a video where an Ethiopian Airlines jet crashed into the ocean. Everyone on board died.
Airline regulations vary greatly and maintenance can vary as well. All airlines flying into and out of Europe and the US have to meet strict standards. If you are flying foreign carriers in other countries that don’t have these regulations it can get dangerous. I believe both of your airlines have pretty good records. Do some research on airsafe.com or google you airlines with the word safety.
I flew Egypt air once. From Luxor back to Cairo. The plane looked great. We got on it, and my husband dropped the tray table and it almost fell off. We looked out the window and there was a jet engine being worked on out in the sand. (Not a good sign.)
When the plane began to accelerate to go down the runway it shook and rumbled around. It was fine once we got in the air, then shook and rattled when we landed.
It was a scary experience, but we survived.
I am the frequent flyer of Ethiopian airlines. From my experience i can say that Ethiopian airways is a reputed airline in terms of safety and excellence of on board services as compared to other African carriers. There are times that i was frustrated by some irregularities such as missing connections due to delays and some inconsistencies on on bored services like the once some of my friends experienced.
But the cabin crews are very so beautiful and also friendly, the in-flight entertainment has latest selections of movies songs and interesting short programmers. i have watched most of the movies that are on box office during my flights on Ethiopian airways
To straiten the comment given above regrading the crash of Ethiopian airways on Comoros, i had tried to refer some documentaries regarding the incidence. my effort was to know the reason for the accident and have the piece of mind in my continued flights with Ethiopian. From the facts i gathered, I have learned that it was a hijack situation which led to the final consequence. From my sources, of the 175 passengers 50 were survived. Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopian_Airlines_Flight_961
Further i have looked to other sources and read a news regarding the safety records of African airlines with a particular interest on Ethiopian airlines and found on: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18555318/
“Last year, the European Union had cited safety concerns in banning 92 airlines from its air space – most airlines from Africa. The major carriers here, including Kenya Airways, South African Airways and Ethiopian Airlines, have good records and were not on the list.”
Egyptian airways is not mentioned here as if it has good records. If you have only a choice between the two airways, i suggest you better use Ethiopian airways.
So don’t read me as if am trying to show you how much i am good at browsing internet and organizing facts. Trust me when i started flying with Ethiopian airways, those were the few questions that i frequently asked. this is why am trying to recite you few of facts that contributed to get me convinced.
