I have 3 cats who shed a lot. Is there any good (not time consuming) products to get cat hair off of rugs/furniture?
I have hardwood floors throughout my house, so I feel like buying a vacuum cleaner would be pointless since it would only be used for a few rugs. I’ve tried the sticky tape technique, but it takes hours. I brush the cats about twice a week but still lots of cat hair on the rugs (their favorite sleeping spots).

Use a swiffer, seriously, that’s what I use and it’s quick because it traps the hair (you don’t have to sweep it into a dust pan and dump it into a garbage can).
You may need a vacuum if they shed all year ‘round. Dyson makes a good pet-hair vacuum.
The hair won’t come out of the rugs with sweeping – i’ve tried it – it gets deep in the rugs
I hope a good Combing is part of there lives to help get it before it hits the sofa but i would get a small vacuum with an easy bag to change so you can zip around and get the hair!
The roller sticky tape works well and grabs the dander as well. (This is the sticky tape on a stick.)
Swiffer is indeed great for wood floors. I use a pet hair roller on furniture sometimes. But a good vacuum is about the only thing for rugs, and can also be used on furniture.
Thanks guys! I’ve decided I’ll have to get a swiffer and a handheld vac
@eternal_serenity ; Don’t get those YET!!! a hand held vac will Clog all the time, get something slightly bigger like I suggested so you can get at least one room without changing or cleaning it.
@eternal_serenity We have hard wood floors as well, but large vacuums are great for cleaning around the edges of rooms, and sucking up scattered cat-sand.
I agree with @phil196662, hand vacs will clog and become frustrating Additionally, I don’t know of any hand vac that’s powerful enough to remove embedded cat hair from carpets.
Actually, I take that back. If you’re in the position to purchase one, A Dyson handvac would be an excellent investment to rid your household of pet hair problems. I’d shop around for a lower price though before settling though. While I can’t afford to own a Dyson vacuum, (nor do i have need of one at this time) I’ve used one and I can tell you, they are worth the price and the hype is not superficial. Any other brand won’t cut it though- they just don’t have the power.
Yeah, I’ve bought handhelds before, even a good sized Dirt Devil. They don’t cut it. You need a standard upright with accessories, or a shop vac.
@stratman37 But it will just grow back. Instead, skin the cats!
We have two cats and a dog. We also have hardwood floors and a few rugs.
We use one of the non-powered push vacuums like they use at movie theaters. Works well enough and is small and light. Since it doesn’t have a cord it is easy to do it everyday.
I had a cat that loved to be Shaved with a #4 so I would buzz him and leave it long on the top of his back. He would go crazy when you pet him because of the Bristle feeling we get.
Here’s a sponge-type deal; here’s a brush type. They both work fairly well.
i have 3 cats and 2 dogs.. all long haired and my dog shed enough to make more dogs lol. i use a bagless vacuum for all my floors and a swiffer 9 wet sheets instead of dry) for the sofa’s I use a lint remover and give it a quick pass over. also for my carbets ( I have area rugs) I use a good dog brush and brush the carpet. takes 15 minutes a day to do all this and it makes a big difference.
google “sticky sheets” – they’re like huge pieces of tape and happen to work well.
