“Crass commercialization,” we’ve all heard that. But is the whole thing just senseless and empty?

I think it does, but it has definitely changed.
Christmas is completely what you make it. It can be 100% Walmart consumerism, or 100% homemade gifts and family time. It’s up to you.
Don’t get carried away in what other people tell you Christmas is – just make it how you want it!
(For me it’s an important time of year to show my love for friends and family, at least a little more than I usually do. And I’m an atheist.)
Any day of your life can mean whatever you want it to.
It’s in your hands.
Christmas has never meant anything to me apart from the fact it is just a silly celebration of some guy’s birthday (which still isn’t known). But yes it has turned into a big ball of commercialization that people buy into.
How I would want it? Perhaps that’s the issue. I mean I don’t want Franny and Alexander but there has to be some sense of a unifying spirit or it’s just so much savage bull…
To some people it does.Me?Not too much.It is a nice reminder to help others, though :)
It means what YOU want it to.
As I get older, I find it means more to me.
Christmas to me means a time to stop and take stock of where I am in life with family and friends. To acknowledge those relationships and their importance in my life. to reconnect with people that time and distance has separated me from.
I have people all around me who take Christmas very seriously. I think this time of year means a lot to them. I wouldn’t say the focus is on Jesus’ birthday, but they have high expectations of the family getting together and doing whatever is traditional to them for the holiday.
I did not grow up celebrating Christmas, so for me it does not hold much meaning. However, I do enjoy the Christmas season, the lights, the parties, the music.
I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way…
Yes. We can decide to stay away from ‘crass commercialization’.
