What is the song that made you really happy or sad for the first time?

Asked by Ranimi23 (1917points) December 24th, 2009

Remember how Ally Mcbeal had her song that really made her feel something, I think they called it a “sing song” but I am not sure. So, What is your song that you carry with you all day long and what it makes you feel?

My favorite song is “A New Day Has Come” by Celine Dion :-)

Most songs by either Elliott Smith or Cocteau Twins have had a medicative effect on me during moments of deep reflection. There is a song called ‘Ziggy’ by Celine Dion that has also held great meaning for me due to the composition of melody as well as the story that it tells.
According to the mood, I could find the avant-garde musical themes of Philip Glass more compelling than Jeru the Damaja, but I tend to have broader taste than most, I think.
Being firm about choosing just one, I would say that Coutances by Dick Annegarn has been a touching ‘sing song’, lately.

Candle in the Wind, Elton John

“Goodbye Norma Jean, though I never knew you at all….”

My first Happy Song (besides Happy Birthday) was “I’m Free” by the Who. Or maybe it was Puff the Magic Dragon… Peter Paul and Mary.

Hey, this is turning into a very good question!

Dust in the Wind made me sad, even though the version I first heard was sung by Will Ferrell in the movie Old School. Click Me!

A happy song that has now become a very sad song: “Tiny Dancer”- Elton John/Bernie Taupin. An always fun song: “Alice’s Restaurant”- Arlo Guthrie. A really deep song: “Riders on the Storm”- The Doors.

My first memory of a sad/happy song would have to be White Christmas coincidentally enough.

I think its called the Age of Aquarius. I really suck with titles. It actually had to do with a science fiction story I was reading at the time and when I heard the song it kind of made the me imagine the world better in my head. It always gave me a happy feeling. Because everytime I heard the song I imagined this fantasy world that was so pretty and bright.
No I was not tripping on anything. LOL I know some of you were think that. Just made me high on life.
Oh, Once Upon a December makes me sad because it reminds me of Christmas’s with my dad and I miss him when I do remember.

“The Sweets” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
It’s so beautiful, but just sounds so… sad. It’s haunting.

What a Wonderful World, sung by Louis Armstrong

i’ve always felt that this song was full of opposites: sophisticated music and voice singing plainly worded verses; the words simple but their meaning somber, eliciting happiness and disquiet. maybe because of how the words are sung by Armstrong with his warm, mellow voice that keeps it from being sappy.

then i heard it in Good Morning Vietnam. the juxtaposition of the sweet, hopeful words describing an idyllic world in simple words and soulful harmony with the montage of violence and destruction was so utterly heartbreaking.

in any case, it makes me happy and sad.

Some of the songs that make me sad are Ebony Eyes – Everly Brothers, Last Kiss – Pearl Jam(cover), Leaving on a jet plane – John Denver. Leaving on a jetplane has some memories to it. My first love didnt work out. She flew halfway around the world to attend college and later on became a nun. And that’s how things ended between us. She sang this song to me at the airport just like that when i went to see her off. I kinda teased her and we were laughing at each other and holding hands. That’s the last time i saw her. It’s been more than 10yrs now.
