I am not a religious person, and have friends from many ethnicities and religious backgrounds. I was raised in the Christian faith, so I do still celebrate Christmas with my family. Today, I came across this Quote that expresses my sentiments quite well:
“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”
~~Agnes M. Pharo
I wish a happy holiday season to all Jellies in the Fluther collective. I hope that everyone finds themselves surrounded by love today, and that the feeling stays with them in all the days to come.
Do you have any holiday quotes to share?

“Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!”
This is not a quote, but this song title just seemed to fit your question, perfectly!
@john65pennington: And I like that quote! I Lurve winter, and we got over 2 feet of snow last weekend, so our Christmas is actually white for a change!
No snow for Christmas this year in Nashville. that does not matter. its the spirit that counts and our home is loaded with it this year.
The only blind person at Christmastime is he who has not Christmas in his heart.
Helen Keller
Hang in there, it’s all over on January 2.
“And where does magic come from, I think magic’s in the learning
Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning!”

@stranger_in_a_strange_land: ((((((hugs)))))) for you. I know that you’ve been going through a tough time, and the holidays are typically a depressing time for me, too. Like you said, hang in there. <3
@hearkat Thanks so much. (((hugs))) for you too, my friend. Let’s raise a glass together (I’m doing 30 year old Glenfiddich as soon as “the sun is over the yardarm” as my father would say).
Let it snow, baby. Let it reindeer.
@stranger_in_a_strange_land: Having been married to an alcoholic (who did not live to see 40), I get saddened when others choose to “drown their sorrows”. I wish you health, wellness, and self-contentment, to allow you to maintain an internal calm within all the external storms of life. :-)
@rangerr: I am glad to see you!
Cute pun! Did you make it up, or where is it from?
It’s a Relient K album title.
@hearkat I understand what you mean. I’m mixing scotch, valium and paxil right now, which I’m sure is no good for me. It’s only been going on for seven weeks but I’m starting to get worried. It just seems necessary to get through the days of useless existance. I need to find some reason or goal to want to keep going on.
If I decide to finish my PhD, I’ll need a clear haed to do this. The VA doc doesn’t realize that I’m mixing alcohol with the meds she’s got me on. Right now, oblivion is just too attractive. I know that I shouldn’t be mixing this stuff, but right now, with no one dependent on me, I just see no point.
@bvdshec17: The ultimate Christmas quote! It’s all about sharing joy. :-)
@boffin: Another classic! And one that reflects my sentiments toward the commercialized frenzy of it all.
“No one is a failure who has friends.” – Clarence the Angel
“God bless us all, every one!” – Tiny Tim
How many observe Christ’s birthday! How few, his precepts! O! ‘tis easier to keep Holidays than Commandments.

Santa Claus wears a Red Suit, He must be a communist. And a beard and long hair, Must be a pacifist. What’s in that pipe that he’s smoking?

@gallileogirl: That Ben was truly timeless in his wisdom. And I chuckled at the second one. Thanks!
@Dr_Dredd: Well, I don’t believe that there is an all-powerful being, but I do believe that the vast majority of those who observe Christmas lead lives of considerable comfort, as compared to those in other parts of the world, and thus they are already “blessed”.
It’s coldern a witch’s tit.
I have a couple:
It’s like your children talking about holidays, you find they have a quite different memory of it from you. Perhaps everything is not how it is, but how it’s remembered.

I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year. As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year. And thus I drift along into the holidays-let them overtake me unexpectedly—waking up some fine morning and suddenly saying to myself: Why this is Christmas Day!

I once wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up – they have no holidays.

In my neck of the woods it would be “Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Everywhere I go!” AND “Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!” And we have about 2 ft of snow. So our town really did have a White Christmas!!
@ShanEnri: I really like all of those, especially the first one.
@NUNYA: We got 2 feet of snow last weekend, but now it’s raining…
@hearkat yeah I put that one first because it means more in my opinion!
@hearkat Before this big snow storm we had days where it rained too. Not big rain but more of a drizzle. It did turn the streets and sidewalks into a sheet of ice though.
In the words of Clark Griswald: “Hallelujah, holy shit! Where’s the Tylenol?”
