Weights and cardio to lose weight?

Asked by Zachfersure (18points) February 27th, 2008 from iPhone

If I am trying to lose weight, will weight lifting help or hurt? And is trying to gain strength worthless because I will lose muscle while losing weight?

you will weigh more but u will look better. The more muscle you have the more fat your body burns.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue, and it weighs more than fat, which isn’t metabolically active. What this means is that as you increase your muscle mass, you increase your metabolism, and thereby increase the rate at which you burn fat.

The only way to lose weight is to ingest fewer calories than you burn. However, in order to build muscle, you have to ingest more calories than you burn. The trick is to make the calories you ingest work for your body. In other words, eat good food. You might not lose weight, but as the previous poster mentioned, you will look better. But more importantly, you’ll feel better.

Weight loss can be summed up by the following very simple advice that people make so complicated:

Eat Healthy and Exercise Regularly (30–45 minutes a day 5 days a week)
