Is this really considered running a red light?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) December 26th, 2009

You are traveling behind a semi tractor trailer on a city street. the traffic light turns red as the semi goes underneath the light and you follow right behind. you do not see the red light, because its hidden by the height of the semi. a cross traffic vehicle t-bones you in the side, no injuries. who is at-fault?

The argument can be made that it was my fault for following so closely behind the truck, in other words tailgating, to the point where I couldn’t see the red light.

Sorry if I made no sense, I shall decline in answering this question.

I say using the truck as an excuse for not seeing the light wouldn’t work.

We get tickets for running a yellow, $150 bucks, I think. I would think the car behind the semi was at fault. This is Alberta.
