I am going to be home alone this afternoon and want to download a good chick flick from xbox or iTunes. I usually only watch action/ adventure movies with hubby. What have I missed in the last few years that would be worth watching in the “Chick Flick” genre?

Yech. I somehow ended up watching “Love, Actually” with my friends a few weeks back. That’s… good one? It’s a chick-flick, that’s for sure.
Confessions of a Shopaholic is a cute one that I saw recently.
It’s not new, but I love Miss Congeniality. Makes me laugh every time.
Are you happy you donut Nazi?!
Waitress
Juno
Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day
It’s not new at all, but Moonlight and Valentino.
Newer- Shopgirl.
Anything with Hugh Grant and or Julia Roberts. Love Actually is great. I also like the Princess Diaries. I know it’s for a younger audience, but it’s still fun.
@tinyfaery I love the Princess Diaries too. The second one wasn’t as good but the first one is still really cute.
I second @filmfann‘s suggestion of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. it is a wonderful, heartwarming film.
Some of my favorites are: Pride and Prejudice, Under The Tuscan Sun, and French Kiss.
@bennett ; I probably should watch Pride and Prejudice. My daughters talk about it and refer to it all the time. Apparently members of our family resemble some of the characters and I never know if I am being insulted or complimented.
@Judi – It’s a wonderful film! I love the most recent one with Kiera Knightley
@Judi Please, please don’t watch the one with Keira Knightly. That is a bastardized version ot the story. If you want to watch it rather than read it, please watch the BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. There you will get the humor and the characters as they are meant to be played.
I watched Enchanted with my daughter and I really enjoyed it.
I also agree with @Marina. I thought I would hate Confessions of a Shopaholic, but it pleasantly surprised me.
Amelie. Best movie ever. For anyone.
The last one I loved was “Julie and Julia”. Other good ones are “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, “Fried Green Tomatoes”, “Steel Magnolias”, “Beaches”, “Terms of Endearment” and “Thelma and Louise”.
P.S. I Love You
Stepmom
I second @bennett‘s Under the Tuscan Sun suggestion.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Something To Talk About
Pretty Woman
Also, I love this question. I was looking for some goo chick flicks the other day.
I think “Fried Green Tomatoes” is a chick flick and I like that.
The Devil Wears Prada is a personal favourite.
You’ve already received many good suggestions, but here are some of my favorites:
1. 50 First Dates
2. Sense and Sensibility
3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Oh shit, fuck Closer.
Go see Lost in Translation.
I’m such a woman.
Hmm…I like ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’. And P.S. I Love You. I also like @Allie ‘s answer with Stepmom. Baby Mama’s hilarious, too.
Two Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant. As someone else said, pretty much anything with Hugh Grant.
Prelude to a Kiss.
It’s cute, a little supernatural, and it has both Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin when they were still good looking.
@Blondesjon Alec Baldwin is like a fine wine – better with age.
@Likeradar . . . i prefer him with a little less meat on his bones and a few less burst capillaries.
@Blondesjon How does your wife feel about your attraction to the younger Alec Baldwin? ~
I dunno if this is Chick flick stuff but I loved Sunshine Cleaning Service and Julia and Julie (both, oddly, with Amy Adams).
The Family Stone (also holiday movie)
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Vicky Christina Barcelona
Knocked Up
Juno
Shakespeare in Love
My Best Friend’s Wedding
Stepmom
Mermaids
Steele Magnolias
These seem to be roughly newer to older.
A fairly recent chick flick that I liked was The Proposal. It was actually funny unlike most romantic comedies. I wouldn’t watch PS I Love you if you have read the book. By choosing Hillary Swank, who is absolutely unfit for that role, they managed to ruin the movie (for me at least).
@PnL I must respectfully disagree that The Proposal was funny. :)
Some excellent suggestions listed above! I won’t list repeats, but there are a couple I would like to add to the list.
Sweet Home Alabama
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Shakespeare in Love
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Confessions of a Shopaholic, Definitely, Maybe, and Julie and Julia are all pretty great.
Sleepless in Seattle
While You Were Sleeping
You’ve Got Mail
Dirty Dancing
I consider Death Proof a chick flick but…**Trails off.**
So I downloaded Pride and Prejudice from Amazon and the last episode was messed up! It was a repeat of the previous episode!!! Now I have to borrow my daughters disks next week!!
@PnL ; Thanks. It must have been a different BBC Production, but at least I got to see the wedding, even if the actors were different!!
Steel Magnolias. Thelma and Louise. The Family Stone. Juno.
Amelie is my favorite, followed by Elizabethtown and Away We Go
