How much do you pay for your YMCA membership?

Asked by eadinad (1281points) December 30th, 2009

I’m a college student trying to price out various gym costs in my area (Kansas City if it matters.) Looking on the local YMCA website, they say they offer various memberships, including a college student membership, as well as financial assistance – but I can’t find a ballpark cost listed anywhere.

So, if you have a YMCA membership, would you mind sharing how much you pay per month, as well as what kind of membership it is? (Individual, family, college, military, etc.) Thanks in advance.

Edit: I’d also be interested in knowing the costs for other local gyms, if there are other Kansas City residents here.

We’re considering a family membership and it’d be ~$100/month.

I applied for financial assistance and was approved for a family membership at the YMCA that is $30/month. Also, check out the health education building at your college. My college tuition actually includes a fee that allows me to work out throughout the semester. They have a pool, indoor track, basketball courts, weight and cardio machines, and even some classes. Your school might have something similar.

$50/mo but since I haven;t been able to use it in several years, I consider it a donation while I pay $100/wk for a personal trainer.

The YMCA website has the answers to all your questions.

I used to pay 37 CAN$/month for mine a few years ago as a full-time student. Check with your local Y about the possibility of getting a free membership when becoming a volunteer. It worked for me in Montreal. It’s worth considering.
