(Spanish!) what's the difference between por and para?

Asked by Soubresaut (13714points) December 30th, 2009

Ok, I haven’t had a Spanish class in a while and I’m going back into it… which is good! I’m really excited, lol…. but reviewing old info, I came across an old question:
por and para. What’s the difference? When do you use one over the other? Help! Thanks

I was going to try to explain it, but I found this page which does a much better job. It’s easier to just learn the difference by practicing Spanish than by memorizing a list, though. One thing I do remember is that whenever you give someome something, it’s “para ti.”

Both can be translated into “for” which is why it can be so confusing. Found this page that explains all the rules and uses for it. Good luck on your class
