Where to stay (and golf) in Palm Desert?

My husband and I want to take a break from Scottsdale this Feb and go down to Palm Desert. I have Googled “best golf courses in Palm Desert,” but haven’t really found any info. It would be nice to stay somewhere near some great golf courses. Nothing below 4 star for accomodations. Also a spa is a must.
Any suggestions on courses and/or hotels appreciated!

Sorry, I was only in that area at the Desert Warfare Training Center and lived on-base the whole time. There seem to be dozens of nice hotels in that area though.
