Is corn cob blasting good for taking rust off of a car?

I have a bit of surface rust on my car and a friend lent me a sandblaster. I’m trying to figure out what media to use since I’ve read reports of silicia sand causing respitory problems. Corn cob is cheaper then aluminium oxide. I was wondering if anyone had some wisdom about this.

As a bit loosely related random information, I know they use ground walnut shells to clean bronze statues in the park.

There’s a good table rating various blasting media for different applications on this page . Corn cob scores “poor” for removing rust.

On sheet metal you are going to get distortion no matter what blast media you use. On the 1949 170d I’m restoring, the rusted areas are being cut away, new metal welded in, leaded, sanded and primed. On the chassis, it was glass-bead blasted and powder coated.since the body has a wooden frame there are other issues as well For surface rust, sanding is better than any blasting media.
