Causes/cures for vertigo?
I seem to have vertigo. I also seem to have my period. I generally do get weak from my period, but I’ve never had this severe dizziness before. Are they related? Any cures? I took some iron so hopefully it will help.
My symptoms are just that I’ve been getting dizzy both sitting and standing for several hours. I tried lying down, but that made it so much worse. The whole room was spinning, and I got really nauseous. Now it’s at bay because I’m sitting straight up and haven’t moved in an hour.
I want to have a fun new year’s eve, so are there any at-home remedies you know of?

Forget about home remedies. See your doctor.
Check your blood pressure. It might be very low or high.
I’ve had labyrinthitus a few times and the dizziness you describe. That is an infection of the ear canal that disturbs balance. Of course, without a doctor’s visit there is no way of knowing what you have. One time when I had it, I could not get to a doctor and was told that bonine or another anti-motion sickness pill will help alleviate the symptoms. It did help somewhat but was not a cure. If you can’t get to a doctor, it wouldn’t hurt to try them, but they will probably make you drowsy.
@janbb Thanks a lot. Did you have other symptoms? My ears feel fine and I don’t feel congested at all.
@JLeslie Really? Eek. I actually have access to a machine, maybe I’ll check.
No – I didn’t feel any stuffiness or anything. It came on suddenly, lasted about 24 hours the first time and a little less the second. It’s not serious but it was miserable..
Yes, although usually if it is very low it would get better lying down, but not necessaily. Low pressure would explain the nauseau also. Take your pressure standing, lying down and sitting, and see if it is varying a lot in each position.
Inner ear imbalance or infection can also be a cause.
Some people have idiopathic vertigo, not able to identify a cause. I knew someone like that who could not stand up for three weeks straight and then it would subside. It happened a couple of times a year, but that is rare.
I wonder if Dramamine might help?
