Well, here we go again. Did you ever even get used to writing 2009?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) January 1st, 2010

As the years fly by, it seems to take more and more of the calendar to remember every time to write this year instead of last. You know it’s a lost cause, don’t you, when you start absentmindedly writing things like 2003 or worse, 1999 for 2009? And now we have a new year and a new decade to contend with. Honestly, when will it all end? Can’t we just find one good year and adopt good old fashioned conservative principles, refusing to part with it?

I was paying some bills this morning, and wrote 2009 three times. Damnit, where’s the whiteout?

I suppose you have a suggestion? Which would be a proper year to adopt indefinitely? I usually don’t have a very hard time with realizing that the year is changed when I’m writing dates. I have a problem with months for some reason, but not years.
I’m not sure if there is any year I would be okay with that remained longer than is normal. I usually get tired of years around August as it is.
Well, if we were to pick an eternal year, it would need to be one with a seven in it. That’s the only way I could let you and whoever your accomplices are get away with that.

I know what you mean, however, I have already had to write the date twice this morning and it’s the first time in years that I had no problem remembering it’s 1990.

Yeah, I finally did. A month ago.

It usually takes me about three months to get the year right on most occasions. However, once in a while, I’ll find myself making a mistake even in October or November. A few weeks ago, when I was paying some bills, I wrote 2006. I have no idea why. :-)

I’m still writing 2008.

@Dr_Dredd 2003 sticks in my writing hand for some strange reason. But I sure wouldn’t adopt it.
@Talimze Maybe 2000 would be a nice round number, easy to abreviate as Y2K ore even 2K. :-)

Happy New Year, Fellow Flutherites!

Let’s all vote for MMX as the shortest and easiest way to remember it.

Pass it on jellies.

I’m still putting 5769 on my checks, and it’s almost the end of Tevet.

Once, after coming home from a New Year’s Eve party, I felt like changing the date on my whiteboard in my room from 12/31/07 to 1/1/08. But I was so tired and I wasn’t really thinking that I wrote 1/1/06. Other than that, I only have problems remembering which month it is. I mean, you finally get used to writing one number and it changes on you again!! AUGH!!

My biggest problem is with the months. Not only do they change 12 times faster, they have dissimilar names too!

I haven’t yet written 2010. But then, it’s only been 2 days. I did manage to say ‘two thousand and ten’ only moments after the clock ticked over.

I got quite used to writing 2008 for some reason, so the 2009 hasn’t quite stuck with me.

We could stick with one year, sure, or—because it amounts to the same thing—not be bothered to number any at all. But then we would have to give unique numbers to the days. If we’d started with January 1, 0001, we’d be up to 733,774 by now. Don’t know about you, but I think that would turn a history class into a real pain.

According to http://www.timeanddate.com/ (I love that site!), January 1, 0001, was a Saturday, just in case you were wondering.
