I just noticed this last night and it's really bugging me now. I've got a slight overbite. Is there anything I can do to help it, besides going to the dentist?

It seems kinda pointless to go to the dentist for something so small and unimportant. But it’s really bugging me now! Does anybody know what I could do?

If I’m not mistaken, you’d have to visit an orthodontist, who would outfit you with braces and headgear. But it wouldn’t hurt to visit your dentist and ask what s/he would suggest. No problem is too small if it’s really bugging you.

Have you asked the dentist ever if there is anything else about your bite or dentition that should be fixed? Sometimes the overbite is just the problem you can see.

Otherwise, about all you can do is stop looking in the mirror. And if you still do it, stop sucking your thumb – that is a major cause of developing an overbite.

if it’s slight it can be improved with ortho. If it’s not in the bite you can, for about the same price as braces, get a small chin implant. The jawbone is the last bone to stop growing, so depending on your age, it may correct itself.

There is no safe or healthy way to fix your teeth without the help of an orthodontist. Anything you try could end up seriously harming your teeth!

A retainer with certain springs in place has the power to change the position of your teeth over time, but it’s something you’d have to wear 24/7 until your problem is fixed, then you’d have to wear a regular retainer every day for an undetermined amount of time after that. There’s also InvisiLign, but I don’t know much about that besides the fact that it makes your teeth look super shiny.

Of course, it could also be a more serious problem regarding the alignment of all of your teeth. After many years of orthodontic treatment (some of which gone wrong) I have a permanent overbite that cannot be fixed. It’s only a cosmetic thing that bothers me on occasion, but I’ve learned to deal with it. Only a select, lucky few are born with perfect teeth. You’re lucky that a slight overbite is all you have to deal with!

I guess it’s not that big of a deal. I have really straight teeth (so much that people have asked me when I got my braces off when I’ve never even had them!), which I’m really thankful for, but it’s really annoying how my teeth don’t land right on top of each other.

Your front teeth aren’t supposed to land right on top of each other. If your other teeth don’t, then you may be at risk for later problems with jaw pain (TMJ).

@Darwin Oh. Maybe this is normal, then. I just have been thinking about it alot lately so it feels strange. I guess I should just stop thinking about it so much.

That would probably be a good idea. It may very well be like women who think their butts are too big – my daughter is a case in point. She is convinced that her butt is too big, but at 5’ 8” she wears a size 6. A size 6 on someone that tall is not too big.

Your teeth may be just fine.
