When did you last fly a kite?

Asked by Zen_Again (9936points) January 2nd, 2010

I saw one in the sky and it reminded me of my youth. I loved flying kites, nothing special, mostly home-made stuff – but I loved it.

I can’t remember what it was about it that I loved, though.

What is appealing about flying kites?

When I was a kid. I wasn’t very good at it.

a few years ago, my and buddies made a 7ft wide kite out of clear plastic for window sealing and had it on a 4,000ft spool of line. went out on a very windy day and had it about 2,000ft up, took about an hour to bring in.

good times

I have never flown a kite. I don’t even know the basic methods of how to get one to fly. I know you run and you pull… is that pretty much it? Honestly, I’ll probably never fly a kite, unless I take my (future) kids one day.

A long time ago, when I was a kid.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I flew a kite but I’m pretty certain that on the occasions I did fly one, I had a fun time and it was relaxing.

Last summer actually. It was a blue box kite…and it made acquaintance with the power line several times. Flying kites is a great adventure…you never if it will land in the tree ten feet away, or ten miles away. :)

@Allie. You are hereby ordered to go fly a kite, with or without kids!

I have never flown a kite but I would like to someday. It seems very peaceful and fun, a great way to do something outdoors, and I believe it’s one of those activities that keeps getting more fun as you gain prowess.

When I was younger, over spring break we would always fly kites. Mine always ripped. So eventually I gave up.

Hmm, I believe it was 2001 in the Outer Banks. One of those kites with two strings that you can steer and do tricks with. Pretty fun, but we crashed it a lot.

I like to make kites from sticks and newspaper. I feel like the third Wright brother when they fly.

When I was like, five, I think. I had the best kite. It was pretty. <3

But I haven’t had a kite in years. I want one.

I never did fly a kite. However I did once share a sandwich with a kestrel.

@Sampson (very hard for me not to think of you as boots but anyway) Why were you flying kites a few months ago?

Grisaille's avatar

Never.

Did see The Kite Runner recently. Made me want to fly one, for like five minutes.

Last summer. I keep a small inexpensive one in the car, and have flown it from the top of the parking garage at lunch as a de-stresser. I don’t have very much string, so it doesn’t go too high.

@Zen_Again Because it’s fun.

I just looked at asomething on my piano and noticed an old kite, lovingly made from scratch – paper (with little butterfly drawings) sticks and a streamer of ribbons as a tail – made by my daughter – about 15 yeasr ago. What a coincidence – it had been “misplaced”.
