My voice is weird?

Asked by PeanutDude (22points) January 3rd, 2010 from iPhone

What the title says. At school some people make fun of me. I can’t even hear how weird it is unless I record it. People can hardly understand me. I need advice

Maybe you can try taking some voice lessons, or just practicing saying words over and over till you get them right (i.e. others can understand it). Or it could be that you just need to speak a little slower.
Try some diction exercises – they train you to open your mouth and use your vocal chords in a way that would be impossible to sound words the wrong way – you can start with this page . Hope it helps

Thanks cinddmel, but I’ve already tried speach classes for 6 years. I will try this, but my voice will still be weird

What exactly do you mean by weird? Too high, too low, something else?

How old are you? Could it still be changing?

My voice is too high

Ok, as @sliceswiththings said, how old are you? If it’s too high now, it could still be changing and will eventually get lower. Just give it some time, everybody develops at different rates.

My age is sort of private, but I’m in 6th grade. It’s sound like this all of my life.

In the sixth grade my voice sounded like Alvin & the Chipmunks’. You have nothing to worry about. Give it a little time and you’ll have a deeper voice, and you’ll probably start growing a sweet beard. Hang in there man. :)

In about four years your voice will be quite a bit lower, your body will be taller, and you will have a lot more hair. Don’t worry about it.

Besides, look at all the guys who have made big bucks by being able to sing falsetto, including Barry Gibb, Prince, Michael Jackson, Frankie Valli and a whole bunch more.

You should be aware that NOBODY hears their own voice as others hear it (differences in bone conduction, sound fields, etc.) so hearing a recording inevitably sounds weird to the voice’s owner. I doubt your voice is any weirder than your fingerprints—everyone’s different!

If it’s raspy or hoarse, however, or if you can’t sustain a steady vowel sound, then get it checked out.

Oh yeah, 6th grade, you’re fine. Hang in there.
