I bought a graphics tablet for my computer, and ever since I got it the computer doesn't work?

Asked by Pseudonym (2547points) January 4th, 2010

I have a 2–3 year old MacBook, connected to a monitor, external hard drive, printer, and audio headset. I bought and installed a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet about a week ago, and ever since it’s been having a few little glitches, followed by things that are really inconvenient. I restarted the computer over and over again. It wouldn’t help, so I tried unplugging the graphics tablet. The glitches are gone, but I was really enjoying my tablet. Any mac experts here?

Try reinstalling the driver software. Not sure about this but you may have to make sure to not have the Wacom connected until after the software is installed…just review the directions.

What system are you running? Also what kind of software did you install? Drivers etc.

@daemonelson I’m running Mac OS X Leopard. I installed Bamboo, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and Corel Painter Essentials 4

The issue may be OS versions and software versions. To my knowledge, this is an issue with any OS (Win, Linux, etc.). You need to check compatibility between the current OS you’re running, the Bamboo’s drivers, and the Apps you’re running. All three need to be compatible.

Otherwise, check the support pages for each, starting with the Wacom support page. Then check functionality in your more basic apps like the Adobe Photoshop Elements first. Also, maybe check any compatibility or conflict issues between Photoshop Elements and Painter Essentials-though that would be more unlikely unless the two were running at the same time?...it’s a troubleshooting issue in most cases, so it’s going to take some working through.

After a quick bit of searching, it turns out there are quite a few sets of drivers available. Apparently there is a specific driver for the macbook (which can be disagreeable at times).
I’ll let you know if I find a link.
