An annoying metal roof repair question?

Can someone point me to information about how to replace those foam baffle strips that go in between the roof and the ridge vent cap? They’ve all come loose and lots of debris is getting in. I may not be using the right terminology, but maybe you get the idea. Is there any solution that doesn’t involve removing the 25’ long vent cap? Spray foam? Duct tape? Unmatched socks?

Anyway to post a pic? I’m having a hard time visualizing it.
Was it that yucky spray foam to begin with? Those foam roofs are awful because you can never find the leak.
No, they WERE the 18” ( I think) foam strips that were fitted to match the ridges on the roof panels. They’re called baffles of closures or something.
I wonder if you can replace them with a tile or flashing ridgecap? Foam seems like a poor design in the first place. That’s probably why you can’t find it now.
@rhodes54 Is the question annoying or the metal roof repair?
@Judi 1)The question would probably be annoying to professional metal roofer since I’m clearly not using correct terminology.
2)The leaves and debris in the attic are certainly annoying.
3)Any response that suggests I have no option other than to remove the entire ridge vent with my underpowered Ryobi cordless drill is going to result in a HUGE annoyance.
After looking at this (page 11) and considering how it was orginally able to come loose. I think you may be able to replace your venting material without removing the ridge cap. Looks like the venting material just slips in place and can be secured with a little caulk along the bottom.
What I referred to in my earlier answer as venting material was acutally vented closure material… sorry for being unclear.
It’s ben a few years but I beleave I know what you are talking about. I would have to say your roof has some years on it and the foam baffles have most likely lost there resiliency. They nead to be replaced! Don’t get excited it’s fairly simple. Get the replacements and install them one at a time by loosening the screws and sliding the old one out and the new one in.
Sorry, I’m getting lost with the “get the replacements” part of your post. (he added but only HALF-jokingly) They’re some kind of EurAsian hybrid metric M. Escher-inspired V-crimp style that the local box stores don’t carry. My original post on this was almost a year and a half ago which tells you a little something about my home-improvement style.
It’s only when I go up in the attic for the Christmas decorations that I see all the leaves, rotted foam and squirrel furnishings that I think “Wow, I should REALLY do something about those gaps in the vent cap”.
Seriously though, I think there’s some kind of expanding foam tape that’s specificaly designed for this, but that was six months ago and I’ve forgotten the name
I’m sorry I was under the impression you had the foam baffles. You will most likely have to go to a roofing supply dealer to get them. If that is not a possibility and you have access to this area from your attic there is a foam rope designed for window instalation that might work. Mine is called Pre-Caulking Filler Rope.
I think they ARE foam baffles, but the pattern isn’t anything they carry at the local Lowe Depot. That Filler rope sounds familiar. I guess it’s a moot point, I’m not going anywhere NEAR the attic, much less the unshaded roof in central texas until at least November. I’ll save your post til then.
