What has your experience been with Yaktrax?
Are they worth bothering with? We have lots of snow and ice here and lots of broken bones already. I have been told that the Yaktrax are not too sturdy and difficult to put on. Worth shelling out $30?

I have no idea what Yaktrax is.
I used some when I lived in Washington and walked to school in the winters.
Here’s my take:
They might be useful if you are going to be walking long distances. Otherwise, they are annoying to put on and take off. Also, they don’t do well on any surfaces besides thick sheets of ice.
Really, I didn’t find that much success with them, in general. They kind of threw me off balance and I found that I could walk more efficiently without them, just by going more slowly.
@Joe; They are a mini version of chains for tires; you attach them to the bottoms of your shoes. (Or google “yaktrax,” if you’re that curious.)
@juniper: That is really helpful. We have a few patches of ice under the snow but that’s all you need to have your feet fly out from under you. MIndfulness is the clue. And I will do most of my walking in areas where the sidewalks are shoveled. Thank you.
