Have you noticed anything that has become more than a fad? Any interesting patterns or changes in behavior?

Using online social sites as evidence in court…catching cheaters via texts…panicking over viruses

Blending words, like bromance, sexting, and combining celebrity couples names like Bradgilina and Tomkat. I find that annoying, but it’s still a trend.

Things that have previously been considered very vulgar or inappropriate such as swearing have become more and more common in movies and television and such. There is content in PG-13 movies today that perhaps not 15 years ago would have been reserved for R rated movies.

As an adjunct to @clioi, extremely bad behaviour seems to be acceptable for some odd reason. Any of the stupid reality tv shows about courtrooms, police, heck – any reality tv show, come to think of it. They all seem to point up people behaving badly as not only the norm, but it seems to be expected. Not just tantrums and fits of horrible cussing, but girls fighting with each other over men, bra straps, he said/she said.
Remember that 72 or 82 year old woman that the cop finally had to tase? I thought that as one grew older one had MORE decorum. Apparently not.

Woofer, the antithesis of Twitter. It’s a new (technological) trend.

But what do I know from these things.

Puts on Dylans greatest hits on the turntable and smokes his pipe, contentedly.

Here’s the NY Timeschart, ‘Picturing the Past 10 Years’

I don’t think it’s great, but it’s a good conversation starter.

@Zen_Again. Really? I never heard of it. Or are you being funny. Puns, I get. I love word play. If that’s the case, hahaha. Oh. My ribs! ;-)

Incivility, increasingly explicit sex on TV, lack of respect for the President (“You lie!”), polarization of political positions…

CyanoticWasp's avatar

@Austinlad, you’re right… it’s not all bad, then, is it?

Trillian's avatar

@Zen_Again. Roger that. Did it, found it. God, I’m old.

‘Apps’. Evey company and their dog (or the virtual dog app on their iPhone) has an application. You can use the Find An App App to get the Fart App; get the CNBC App to track how companies making apps are performing, and get an app to find a cell phone provider to get another app-enabled phone.

@VohuManah That’s appsolutely enough for me. I have no apptitude for appreciation of these applifiers to my life. (Ok, I admit, applifiers is a reach)

Using social sites to stay in touch with family and friends, no more writing (that has almost disappeared) or even calling.
Also you can “google” anything you want to know more about.

@CyanoticWasp Verbing nouns?

Internet marriages and virtual babies. In places like Second Life, IMVU, and more, people actually have internet marriages. They will pay “professionals” in this sort of thing. In Second Life, they have virtual babies, paying for tummy talkers and the like. Their friends get exited for their impending bundles of virtual joy.
