How do people get into curling?
I saw Stephen Colbert interviewing the US Olympic curling team and was surprised that they were all young. It got me wondering how people get into curling. Have you ever curled? Do you know where people in your community go to curl? Do you know anyone who plays?
I’ve always been fascinated by this sport: it’s like billiards on ice. But I’ve never played. Please share your curling experiences…

alright you, I just googled the same question! ( you join the local curling club at the ice pavillion in your neighbourhood) !
Hair? Or do you mean that amazing, exciting sport with brooms sweeping invisible snowchips while a rock slides on the ice towards a bulls-eye?
It’s like all the lawn games – but for Inuit. They get into it out of boredom. The one whose stone falls into the hole has to dive in and get it.
I think it has to do with lack of proper hockey gear and copious amounts of Yukon Jack, but I could be wrong.
I think the question should be interpreted as how do people get into curling?
Translation: how do people become entertained by sweeping ice with a stiff-bristle broom and grunting?
Who me? Oh yeah, I’m INTO it!
1. They’ve tried absolutely everything else.
or
2. There is nothing else.
My brother was on an amateur curling team with some drinking buddies. I ridiculed him endlessly.
No idea how he got into it though.
I don’t know, but my family and I started watching it, and we went to a preliminaries game thing. Pretty cool. Just something about it that’s, I don’t know, awesome.
A corollary question: Why do people get involved in curling?
Who really believes all that brushwork makes any difference.
My kids could take it in school as part of phys ed.
@Mamradpivo I was wondering this, too, GQ, for if there was ever an opportunity for me to go to the olympics, curling sure is it. lol
