Are you currently snowed in? What are your snow day activities?

Asked by SuperMouse (30853points) January 6th, 2010

I am snowed in (again). The boys have a snow day (on the day they were scheduled to return from winter break), the dog refuses to even get close to the back door, and the snow is coming down fast and furious. Are other members of the Collective snowed in today? What do you do on a blustery, snowy, inside kind of day?

I’m not snowed in, though too cold for me out there, so I play on Fluther. I do have to venture out tomorrow morning though, but I will be shopping for clothes, so I won’t be put off by the snow….hopefully!

I would pay to be snowed in right now.

Not snowed in right now, but may be tomorrow. My daughter, granddaughter & I have tickets to go see Lion King in Des Moines tomorrow. Forget that! Not going to happen. :-( The storm’s to start around noon here today & go into tomorrow afternoon. More snow, high winds…blah, blah, blah. When we’re snowed in, I just clean, cook, read, play on the computer….

@NaturalMineralWater I can help you there….....Hahaaaaa

It involves a combination of Fairly Odd Parents, homemade muffins and the comfiest (sp?) most oversized jammies I own!

We’re supposed to get at least 6 inches of snow tonight. School will most likely be cancelled for the children tomorrow. I’ll probably go sledding if it isn’t too cold, then I’ll shovel the driveway. When I’m done I’ll go cuddle in my room and watch tv or read a book. I’m making a big pot of chili for tonight and tomorrow. We’re set!

I am not snowed in again yet. (It is supposed to snow tomorrow into Friday.)

I like to do videos (movies), make hot chocolate, read. If there is enough people, I like board games.

SuperMouse's avatar

@Marina we just got Sequence and once the boys really start losing their minds we are going to start it up.

Where I live there are no such days as “Snow Days”.. Blizzard, hail storm, 50 below.. doesn’t matter. You just throw on another layer and hope your eyes don’t freeze shut!
Note: I live in Alberta, Canada

We’re not snowed in today. Perhaps tomorrow but they always say we’ll get five inches Oh My God Run For The Hills And Don’t Forget To Buy Bread And Milk!. Then we get a dusting.

It’s pathetic.

I like opening up the blinds and watching the snow fall. Hot cocoa, of course.

Ideas for kiddies- indoor snow fort, can you do a handstand?, crafts (scratch-aways are my personal favorite) and Are You A Snowmonster? (use dress-up and make yourself into a snow monster of your choice. I recommend taking pictures of them as they ‘destroy’ and act like godzilla.)

Just got the call to not come in to work this afternoon. Can’t say I’m hurt over that. It’s getting bad out in the country.

Not to gloat, but it’s in the mid seventies here. ;)

When my kids were little, we got out into it and built forts and snow people!
Now…I fluther and read.

Not snowed in. I suppose that’s a good thing because I dislike shoveling and having to walk on like a foot of snow and get my jeans cold and wet.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

Technically I suppose I’m snowed in, but the plow on my old Power Wagon could easily deal with it if I felt like going out, which I don’t. If it gets over two feet on the access road, I’ll hit it so it doesn’t overwhelm the old rig.

Much like @ElleBee It takes a lot of snow for us to have a snow day.
I’m in Michigan.(lake effect)
When we do get one, aside form the usual clearing paths and the driveway, I am usually busy drying gloves, hats and long underwear on the furnace vents, and changing boots on the boot dryer. My goal is to have a boot dryer for every person in the household.
Oh, and a big pot of soup or stew on the stove.

Val123's avatar

@wilma Don’t forget the hot chocolate!

wilma's avatar

@Val123 yes of course, and at the end of the day sometimes I put a wee bit of Buttershots schnapps in it too!

Val123's avatar

@wilma Yummers!!!

Not snowed it, just got home from work. Alas. I don’t think I could ever really be snowed in unless it was a ridiculously massive blizzard, since I live a block from work. And if there ever as a ridiculously massive blizzard I’d probably be even more likely to get called in, since I’m the closest and we have a few thousand fish that need to be fed every day. Alas.

When I was a kid I used to read entire novels on snow days. God, that was amazing. I was such a nerdy child.

When snowed in, which is most of the time now, I put on extra clothing, my Uggs and bless the Subaru Forester. It takes shockingly huge snow and ice storms to keep us in. I do occasionally have to wait for the guy who plows my long and hilly drive.

Milo, OTHO, forgot to pay attention this morning. At his behest, I opened the door and he bounded out…into a drift that left only his shoulders and head showing. After a few seconds of shock, he slogged back inside. extremely aggrieved.

Its never bad enough here to be actually snowed in. We have about 6” of snow here and my dog loves it.

LeopardGecko's avatar

Hell no. I don’t think Vancouver has ever been “snowed in”

Val123's avatar

@LeopardGecko Because it’s status quo for Vancouver to be “snowed in” but you guys just don’t know it! LOL!

Germany is experiencing a heavy snow storm right now. Tomorrow will be even worse. Most airports will be affected. Have a look here

Red means dangerous.

Val123's avatar

@mattbrowne All that snow is in German. I don’t understand German snow…hey! On Inquire, Wise Mama posted some video of the snow in her neighborhood for Silly Girl. She’s narrating, too! I think I’m going to do the same.

answerjill's avatar

No, I am not snowed-in, but today is August in Boston.
