Have you ever read the last page of a book before actually reading the book?

Asked by Holden_Caulfield (1139points) January 6th, 2010

In other words, have you ever been so compelled to read the ending or last page of a book before finishing the entire book or even starting the book persay? I have never done this, but have known people who have and find it very interesting. I can only recall one book that I have read that actually brought it all together on the very last line of the very last page of the book. If you have done this… what book was it and why did you do it? How did you feel afterwards?

Not the whole last page, but I read enough to connect the primary man & woman in the story to see if they stay together.

Never! I don’t watch the ending of movies before the beginning either.

per se* ;p
I used to read the last sentence of a book when I was little. Not anymore though. And now I even use a bookmark to cover what I haven’t read yet when I reach the last page (can’t trust my eyes, honestly).

No. I did, however, read Gone With the Wind earlier this summer knowing full well the last line of the book and how it generally went. I never saw the movie. Near the end, my wife told me Mellie died a few pages before I got there. I wanted to throw her out the window for that!

Never and wow it annoys me when I see someone doing it. I had a girlfriend who used to do that all the time, I once ripped out the last chapter of a book and gave it to her a page at a time just to keep her from doing it, lol.

I only do that with murder mysteries. I can’t stand not knowing who did it.

Only when I was in school and it was the day before a book report was due and I had to quickly read the book and sum it up. Especially if it was a science book report and I had several books to comb through and I just needed facts to help bull crap my way through the report. Other wise if it was just a novel for my own enjoyment than I would never peek.

No. I never read further in a book than where I am. My neighbor/friend does that and it drives me insane.

I do sometimes check the ending out before reading the book.

Oh no! I can’t! I’m so freaked out by ruining the ending, that I’m actually afraid of touching the last page.

I do read all of the chapter titles and ‘assess’ what I can expect of textbooks, biographies etc. before I jump into those, though. I kind of like to know where I’m going . . .

I will sometimes flip ahead and read the last page and then I get mad at myself for it! Especially if its a really good book and I can’t wait to see what happens!

No I don’t want to spoil the ending. I enjoy reading it through and discover the end at the end of the book- In order

Once. I regretted it.
