What jobs/careers out there involve a lot of googling/internet research?

Asked by bittercritter (28points) January 6th, 2010

Are there any particular professions that require someone to be extremely competent in searching for specific things on the internet? I don’t mean specific titles like “professional googler”, but careers that require more internet-searching than others. For instance, an event planner has to research the best facilities, venues, caterers, etc. What else is there?

Not sure I understand your question, but if I read you right, you are proficient in Google searching and want to promote that as a reason for particular companies to hire you. I can’t answer your question specifically, but I should think any company would appreciate such skills, as well as computer skills in general. It’s certainly a skill worth addressing in an interview because your interviewer might have never thought about it.

Any IT position. Almost all I do is Google for the correct answer.

Actually, there are some law enforcement roles (in cyber crime fighting) that could use excellent google skills but these skills would have to be augmented by some additional computer skills and law enforcement training.

Could also go the private investigator route . . .

The Q&A texting service KGB has people that research questions. They are able to work at home and make a small amount for each question they answer. Here’s a link
