Have you ever won the lottery?

Asked by Lorenita (735points) January 6th, 2010

One morning I woke up, read the horoscope and it said it was my lucky day, very lucky day like the most luckiest day in the decade.. I don’t really buy the horoscope thing but this time somehow I believed what it said was true..
The thing is that later that day I went to meet some friends.. and all I talked about was that it was my lucky day and I was going to buy a lotto ticket since it was THE DAY.. I did nothing else but talk about that and how I was going pay my debts and go travel and whatever.. told everyone the same thing .. so before going back home I went to buy my lucky ticket, and I was extremely convinced that it was a winner.

Later that night.. I found out I had won!!!!!!!!! I just couldn’t belive it, I mean it’s like a different kind of happiness and excitement one goes trough when these kind of things happen.. cuz you feel like anything is possible now, it freaking amazing!!!! I didn’t wont this amazingly hug amount of money.. but it was definately enough to party and pay debts and be free..
So.. has this ever happened to you? and if so, do you believe it was just luck or perhaps you “attracted” it??

I once won $5 from the lottery, but I won $100 once from a bingo game our grocery store was running. Other than that I have won a 50 pound sack of fertilizer that my father had donated to the raffle so I couldn’t keep it, and a free permanent wave. It didn’t work.

My brother’s ex-BIL won big bucks from the Massachusetts State Lottery and ended up having to move out of the state to hide from women who suddenly though he was incredibly attractive. He ended up marrying the real estate agent who found him his house in his new state, and the two of them have decided they are too busy managing their investments and going to the health club to have children, although they are the only ones in our family who could actually afford them. He also never went back to college as he said he would when he won, but he did build a house for his mother and give my ex-SIL a new refrigerator.

A few years ago I won $100 from a scratch-off I got as a joke for my birthday.

I win sometimes on scratch offs. Its a family tradition that we all get them for Christmas, but I’m the only one who consistently wins!

My husband an I stopped at a gas station one night while on a road trip. He bought a random ticket and won $50. Then when we stopped again at a different place he bought another and won $100. Not to long after that he played a pick 3 numbers game and won $400… All in one week! It was so weird but fun at the same time. His lucky streak was over after that though lol =)

My wife and i went to a casino. this man had been playing this one slot machine for three hours and had won nothing. he finally gave up and left the machine. my wife grabbed my arm and said for me to sit my butt down, that it was time for this machine to hit. she gave me directions to this particular machine, but i somehow went to another slot machine with the same description. i placed a hundred dollar bill in the machine and after losing $32 dollars, i ordered a cup of coffee from the hostess. i said in front of this machine for about five minutes drinking my coffee. i then placed the coffee to the side of my machine and played $3.00 and pulled the crank. i reached down for my cup of coffee and my slot machine made a whirling sound. i looked up and it hit a jackpot. it displayed two 3x a red seven. the lights flashed and the bell starting dinging. the payout hostess came to me and asked if i knew the amount i had won. i told her i thought it was about $800 dollars. she said that i had better look again. i had won 81 times the triple red sevens! she stated that i had just won $9,720.00! not bad for $32 bucks!

I won $100 on a Powerball drawing last year. So far, that’s the most I’ve won.

Yes, I win every week since I was a kid. The secret? I keep the money other people spend on lottery tickets. Seriously, the lottery should only be played occasionally for fun. Like riding a roller coaster to experience the thrill. Lotteries are not a good idea when you’re actually trying to make money. Because long term the winner isn’t you. It’s the ones running the lottery. Get a grasp of the math behind lotteries. It will shock you. It will discourage you.

I once won $300 on a scratch off ticket. I was out of my home state and only bought the ticket on a whim. Then another time I won ten scratch off tickets from a radio call in. (be the tenth caller) I live in Illinois, the radio station was in Missouri. The tickets were from Kentucky. Mom and Dad and I had a pleasant drive that afternoon. I won $20 dollars from those ten tickets in Missouri. (a $3 a $5 and a few free tickets) We went an hour down the road to Kentucky to cash them in. When I scratched those I had won another $10. As I walked up to the payout counter there was another guy at the same time. I let him go first. I won a couple dollars. When cashing in that ticket, HE was getting paid $4000. DANG, if only I were not so polite.

I have a friend that says, “The Lottery is a tax on people that can’t do the math.”
But I still spend three or four dollars a week on it.
