What characteristics does a person need to be a positive member of any community?

Just joined the Fluther community and would like feedback to what makes a good community member or leader!

Fluther requires that you give of your true self. That you share who you are in your answers.
Fluther values those to support and value others.
Fluther values keeping an even=handed tone in your interactions with others.

Empathy. Always empathy. :D
A good way to learn is to observe the example of community members like @Marina who are well known for their valuable contributions and their positive effect on the community.
They need to understand the importance of giving answers that are useful and can give insight to the asker.
Generosity of spirit and patience. Many communities get very cliquish and are not all that welcoming or generous to new neighbors. And, I guess if you want them to learn to be generous to you one must learn to be generous with them. Give them time to adjust to your presence.
