I really believe in vitamin C. Massive doses. I felt the same 2 days ago, took vitamin C and took a very hot bath and felt great the next morning.

I too am a firm believer in Vitamin C. i had a cold this week, fever, etc. I hit the OJ hardcore, Emergen-C packets and motrin/dayquil combo. sleep a lot.

also, im a big believer in garlic and spicy food. get thai take out, or spicy chinese. make really garlicky pasta.

in the long run, it’ll help.

I really hate to tell you this, but this is exactly the way my pneumonia started. i only had a one or two degree elevated temperature. i fought it for two days on my own, until breathing began to be a real problem. i never get sick. i have never had a cold or the flu, so you can imagine the shock it presented to me. i finally went to the doctor. x-ray reveiled bacterial pneumonia. heavy antibiotics, coughing, blowing my nose and rest for 12 days did the trick for me. i hope you had the flu shots. if not, its too late now. see your doctor before it get out of control. john

@john65pennington Lovely. ~

I’ve downed some neo-citran (it’s like drinking a whole mug of juice with sand on the bottom) and am about to have a hot bath, then put on my jimjams.

Who here has an impenetrable immune system and wants to rub my back?

Megadoses of C and Zinc. Then anoint yourself with Vicks and to bed.

tinyfaery's avatar

Epsom salt bath and sleep.

I know you said besides rest, but you can’t over do that. Lot’s and lots of sleep and be sure to stay hydrated. Stay away from symptom reducers unless the symptoms are interfering with your sleep. As everyone’s said Vitamin C (I’ve found 1.5g per day seems to help a little) and plenty of veggies with some protein to help keep your strength up. Zinc might help too, slow dose it during the day in lozenge form but remember, Zinc can be toxic.

Hope you’re better soon :)

Sleep. But basically you have it already, so you’re pretty much screwed. Hopefully it isn’t a very annoying cold. Sorry.

Zycam and emergen C. I am the only one in my extended family who has not gotten sick this winter although I have felt the sore throat comming on. I start on the Zycam and wait an hour before I do the Emergen-C. Worked so far! Knock on wood.

Well, whatever I have, it’s weird. Some sort of a flu where the queasy stomach lasts for days. I’m fine when I’m in bed or sitting, but, if I get up to move, I feel as though I’m going to throw up. Walking 10 feet, and I’m winded as hell. I tried to empty the dishwasher, yesterday, and I felt sweat dripping down my back.

Back to bed.

JLeslie's avatar

@jmah The queasy might be low blood pressure if it happens when you sit or stand. Drink a lot of fluids, or better yet some soup also to get some salt in you. Do you have a high fever?

Jude's avatar

@jmah Yes, my fever is high. I’m going to try some soup, now. I’ve been drinking water and have had some OJ.

JLeslie's avatar

@jmah You have the flu I think, the real deal. Listen to me, ibuprofen 600mg every four hours with at least a couple of crackers (or any food) to fight the fever. The fever should not last much more than 4 days. When you take the ibuprofen you should get fever relief at about the 50 minute mark.

Jude's avatar

@JLeslie I will. Thank-you.

JLeslie's avatar

:) that is my bossy I want you to feel better voice :). I use it with my husband all of the time when he is sick. Let us know when you feel better. You aren’t alone are you?

Jude's avatar

@JLeslie I appreciate that bossy voice. ;-)

Yes, I’m alone. My girlfriend offered to come by with some sweet and sour soup, but, honestly, I just want to stay in bed and rest. No visitors. I certainly wouldn’t want to give this to her, anyway. I’ll be okay. Thank-you.

SeventhSense's avatar

@jmah
Sounds like you have it bad. Feel better and drink tons of fluids.

Jude's avatar

@SeventhSense That’s the plan, guy. Thanks!

JLeslie's avatar

If you are taking some other cold medicine make sure it does not already have some sort of ibuprofen in it so you don’t take too much. If it does, just add it all together. If it has some other pain reliever like acetomeniphen it is ok to take that and ibuprofen together, you just might still want to cut the amoung to 400 mg. If you already took it and wound up taking 800 or 1000mg no need to panic, just know next dose you won’t need that much.

For the past few days, @JLeslie has been offering “get well advice” via Facebook.

@JLeslie, I would love to adopt you. ;-)

I’m not getting near you with all of that illness hahahaha. Maybe next time I am in Detroit I’ll ring you up. Unfortunately I usually am only there for a few days and never get to see everyone I want to see.

Nikki and I go up there a lot (she’s lives about an hour away). Maybe, we’ll be able to make it happen. :)

JLeslie's avatar

Nikki lives in America or Canada? Did she go to Michigan State? I know a Nikki.

Jude's avatar

She’s from Grand Rapids (went to Western Michigan University), She’s a geologist. She moved to Chicago for awhile and now is back in Michigan. Lakeport, Michigan is around 10 minutes from Port Huron, Michigan. Port Huron borders Sarnia, Ontario, which is where I live.

JLeslie's avatar

My girlfriend has a cottage just south of there. I cant remember the name of the town. I have crossed the bridge up by you to go over to Toronto.

WhYBiRd's avatar

Peppermint humbugs – for the popping ears, vitamin C drinks and hot honey and lemon as you need to keep hydrated a long sleep and a cat as a hot water bottle that does not need to be refilled.

Jude's avatar

It ended up being swing flu. Damn thing near killed me.

tinyfaery's avatar

Swing flu? That sounds kinda fun? :)

Jude's avatar

Brat.

Maybe, I sill have it. ;-)
