There is no “best”. They all have flaws, just in different places. Get yourself a redundant system and cover your bases.
Apparently avast has the “best” qualities, I’ve heard that a lot.
Thank you very much for the answers
A little common sense can go a long way.
#1 :: Don’t use IE. Use Firefox or Chrome to browse.
#2 :: Don’t click on random shit. Understand what you are saying OK to.
#3 :: You mom probably didn’t send you a link to a sex tape. Don’t click on the link.
#4 :: Don’t install random shit from websites. There are tons of sites that host software that looks legit but it isn’t. For example, a site hosted what looked like AVG but it did more harm than good. Be careful.
I suggest Avast.
Avira Antivir has the 2nd highest detection rates of free programs tested. However, Lifehacker.com still recommends Microsoft Security Essentials because it doesn’t eat up as much memory as AVG and the like and has similar detection rates.
@johnpowell Chrome is a crappy browser though, sucky interface.
+1 for Avast. AVG used to be great, but they ruined it with version 8.
I have AVG version 8. whats wrong with it? works great for me.
Microsoft Security Essentials is finally a good program, also.
@john65pennington AVG Version 7’s resident shield used almost no resources and the entire program was very unobtrusive, once they went to 8 the resource usage went through the roof. Games started lagging, Windows took longer to load, it slowed down surfing etc.
I used it for two days, then i started looking around for alternatives.
