How does Extra Foods punish their employees?

Asked by warribbons (606points) January 8th, 2010

Hey, my friend just told me that they punish the employees at Extra Foods by physical beatings. I refuse to believe this, because this is Canada and the year 2010. There are laws against assault. His argument is that Extra Foods is owned by a large company, Loblaw, and doing anything against them would be futile. I don’t think so, assault is still assault. Do they actually dish out the beatings there, or is that incorrect?

There is no way that it is company policy or even an approved practice.
Maybe some meglomaniac manager laid hands on some employee.
The police are obligated to investigate.
If there were no witnesses and no evidence of injury, it way have been difficult to lay charges that would hold up in court.

They will remove one of your testicles. Two mistakes and you’re done.

Is Loblaw owned by a guy named Bob?

I suggest you reword your question to make it semantically accurate, and less sensational gossip. Any question that starts out “a friend just told me…” usually involves an urban legend.

A company is physically incapable administer beatings. Unstable employees who work for companies, can.

Are you asking if the Extra Foods employee handbook states that beatings are part of company policy? No.

Are you asking if Extra Foods HR department knew about a manager hitting employees and did nothing? That’s for a lawsuit to determine.

You could always go to the website Snopes where they debunk things much like this. That might give you an indication of what really is fact and fiction in this instance. Throwing out an educated guess right now with a high probability for accuracy, I’d say that this organization does not use physical assaults for punishing its employees.
