Ladies: In which direction to you shave your legs?
…and does the direction change when you shave above your knee?
The reason I ask is because I’ve read that we should shave “in the direction of the hairs”, but….that would mean shaving DOWN toward your feet, right?? Seems really, really awkward to me…

No. I shave up from the ankles.
Shaving down would definitely be awwwkkkwarrddd.
Not only awkward, but dumb. You’re not going to get a close shave that way. Definitely go “against the grain” there.
I shave from foot up, I don’t think iy would be as close a shave the other way.
I thought you were supposed to shave against the hairs. Which I (and it seems most others!) do.
Against the grain for sure.
although I rarely shave except when I’m going to wear shorts or capris in public during warm weather.
Ankle to knee and it stays the same direction above the knee. I’ve also heard you should shave the opposite way too, but until the invent a razor that would make that comfortably possible, I’m sticking to my way!
I shave against the hairs, as well.
I shave from the ankle up, but don’t shave past the knee, as I am practically hairless on my thighs.
haha – I guess I remembered incorrectly….against the hairs sounds much more logical. I’ve wondered this every TIME I shave my legs!
I’ve heard people say that shaving with the grain reduces in grown hairs, so maybe that was why you thought it was better. As others have said, shaving against the grain is more effective at removing the hair.
@LC_Beta Same with me, no hair above the knee. I love it.
I guess I’m the odd “man” out: I start at the knee and shave down, it’s quite effective.
@chyna @LC_Beta yep, I’m that way, as well. Light blonde hairs above the knee.
I hate shaving, but when I do it, I shave from the ankle up as well. Above the knee I shave all ways. Hair grows in multiple directions above the knee so my razor does too.
Against the grain, except where it tends to get ingrown, where I shave at 90 degrees from direction of growth.
I heard that shaving down (in direction that hair grows) is better because it results in fewer ingrowns.
@answerjill But that doesn’t make for a close shave. I’d rather have a close shave as I don’t get ingrowns very often.
I am a man and don’t shave my legs. When there is heavy regrowth I shave first with the grain, for comfort and then against the grain for closeness. I hope that helps!
In a tic-tac-toe pattern-in case we run out of things to talk about.
