Where's a good place in Brooklyn to live?

Asked by ridicawu (530points) January 10th, 2010

I’m looking to move to Brooklyn in the future, but don’t really know much about it. I was just wondering where a good place to look for living would be. I’ve heard a lot of buzz on Williamsburg, but that it’s pretty expensive and not entirely worth the price. I’d love to hear some more input about Brooklyn and places to live. Thanks. :)

I’ll direct you to my answer in this thread. It’s only been 10 months since this Q, and I think my answer for it still holds up.

New Jersey. If that’s not realistic, Bensonhurst is not so bad if you don’t mind the sound of Russian.

Sorry about the late response, but if you are still interested, there are several great areas in Brooklyn where one can live. If you are looking for a safe and affordable place, you can try Bayridge, Sunset Park, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, or Bensonhurts. Park Slope, Greenpoint, Brooklyn Heights, Borum Hill, and DUMBO are also really great areas, however, finding an affordable place is almost impossible. If you can afford a minumum rent of about $3000 a month for a 2 bedroom, check out these areas. If you are like me, a graduate student on a tight budget, stick to the first neightborhoods mentioned. They are awesome and all are under an hour away of train travel into the city. I hope this helps.
