What was your dream job?
As a kid/young adult, what did you dream about becoming? Did you complete this dream? If not, where do you think/know you went wrong?

Paid to travel the world.
I became a teacher instead. The job ain’t too shabby (great benefits, summers off).
I wanted to be a ballerina.
Now I want to be a wedding planner, and I’m on my way to doing so.
I’ve always wanted to get into acting, since I love it so much but I feel as if I have too much else to worry about.
I always wanted to be a soldier, and that is indeed what I became for over 34 years, in one form or another.
I wanted to be a writer, and I still do.
Right now I’m an air traffic controller, which I love. However I will write that novel one day!
Actor was on the list, as was dance music producer and singer.
Astronaut will forever be on my list, but I think I’ll have to wait for my next life for that one.
Formula 1 driver.
Oh, an I always wanted to be Hugh Hefner.
My multi-disciplinary careers, all of which I loved.
1) Astronomical researcher at Harvard/Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
2) French teacher to third and fourth graders
3) Director of College Placement; I got to read, write, travel, speak in front of large crowds, practice therapy without a license, give out financial aid advice and hang out with wonderful teen-agers.
4) And finally the Arts; I ran a quilt business after I retired; I made hand-sewn and hand-quilted patchwork and appliqué quilts.
I would like to test mattresses.. by sleeping.
@gailcalled You sound like my grandmother (not trying to insult). She was very successful at many things as well.
now shes just good ast being drunk.
@Shield_of_Achilles: Your grandmother and I come to the parting of the ways over alcohol. I seem to be allergic to the stuff.
I wanted to be a teacher, an artist, a singer or an actress.
I’m probably going to teach at the college level eventually, although that’s not the sort of teaching I thought I wanted to do as a child. I got enough of art in undergrad to know I don’t want to be an artist (maybe a hobby?) and I’ve sung and acted enough to know that while I’m good, I’m not good enough. I might get into community theater eventually, but it’s no big if I never do that. I love research, I wouldn’t want to do anything else as a career.
Truck driver. Been one for 15+ years now.
My dream job was to become a commercial airline pilot and I never saw it through to completion. The main reasons behind this was that I didn’t apply myself as well as I could have and should have in high school and I didn’t pursue a college degree and training to become a pilot after high school.
I wanted to work for the KGB – ya, good thing that didn’t pan out.
As a child, I said that I would become a Veterinarian. I have always loved animals. I found-out that it costs about $250,000 (or more now) to go to Veterinary College and I did not want to be in debt for such a large amount hanging over my head. I have also come to learn as to how Veterinary business works and I believe that there is a wrong emphasis on certain products- It is a sick cycle of feeding your cat or dog a certain kind of food or medication that is supposed to be good for them, but instead it makes your animal ill as they age and gives them a short life. So, in conclusion: I have decided to pursue to become a Special Education Teacher, but will be an ambassador for animals on the side :).
My band was the opening band for Roy Orbison and many other recording artists for years.
That was my dream job and it came true.
Working in the city room of a large metropolitan newspaper (just like Clark Kent). And I did it!
I WANTED TO BE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME.
Guess what? I am!
Real answer to come when not drunk.
This answer was way too hard to type, damn it.
I wanted to be Queen of England. However, there were preconditions that I didn’t meet.
Failing that, I thought I’d like to teach English to high school students. Instead I became an editor, teaching one client at a time.
Movie mogul.
I want to listen to ideas for movies, or watch completed films that don’t work, and fix them.
My life has just started, so i thank you for sharing with me these ideas and experiences.
I myself want to be an investigator. I want to display true justice in an attempt to fix others who have been wronged.
I fear I will not be good at my job though. My people skills are lacking, and I’m quite a shy person (thus why I haven’t shared much personal information). But my skills of observation are very keen, so I want to put them to good use.
@Shield_of_Achilles. Don’t sell yourself short. As you said, your life has just started so you have time to improve your people skills and work toward being the best investigator you can be. Put your heart and soul into it and you can do whatever you put your mind to.
Growing up, I wanted to be a stand up comic.
Now, I’d still like to be a stand up or a writer. Or a P. I.
I wanted to be a vet. Too bad blood makes me queasy.
I want to be Asmonet when I grow up. :)
Now I’m reminded that I wanted to be an actor or a playwright. I also wanted to be Superman.
@Austinlad I also want to be some kind of writer. I’m actually working on a book right now. It’s just for shits and giggles, but who knows what may come of it. Ya know?
Its never too late to write. Or be someones Superman. I’m currently working toward that one. Just wish I could find Louis Lane who will let me save her day.
Your not drunk asmonet! And your just the sauce from peoples eyes in the waking Awe of me ! :-P
Engineer – Then I got into a fight with calculus and it left me sad and lost broke and without a cosine. :-(
I am alive
You’re just mad my liver is more efficient.
You’re in awe of me, bitch.
My interests change (and always have) every 3 to 6 months. I was aware of this, so I never really proclaimed that I would be one particular thing when I grew up.
GQ. Always wanted to be a journalist, for some reason. My mom says that in kindergarden, when asked, that’s what I would reply. No-one in my family had been one before me; not my dad, nor anyone else. Later on, I wanted to be a doctor for a while, but that was only because of the games I’d play with my neighbours girls when we were in grade one and two. Yes, I became one. Now I teach.
I always wanted to be a teacher…it’d be great influencing the kids of the next generation. But knowing my reputation, that probably ain’t a good thing. :P
