Take the file you want to edit and open it in a plain text editor. Make sure you have plain text selected in the preferences and it should just open like a text file. Then you can make the changes you want and save it again. Make sure you keep the .html extension.
where do i find the file?
Can you give me a link to the tumblr theme you downloaded?
its one of the featured ones in the theme garden
So you have no files on your computer?
nope- it doesn’t give an option to download it
Well unless the theme designer gives you access to his files, then you probably can not make any changes to it. I am not really familiar with tumblr though, so I might be wrong. Do you have root access to the server or when you write a post is it all through a web browser?
yes and i think you’re right
like the penguin one lets ppl do that (copy then paste)
If you click here you will see more questions about tumblr, they may give you some more helpful info
wait so i’ve got the thing and where do i paste it?
it goes something like , copy and paste theme into Custom HTML under Customize > Theme
?
okay the thing that you click to use a custom html and those buttons at the bottom don’t show up in mozilla firefox, but they do in windows explorer (no damn idea why)
so from wondows internet explorer i can copy the thing
well I am afraid I can be of no further help, as I have never edited or made a tumblr theme, let alone had a tumblr account. you might want to go to the tumblr help forums, or just wait around here until someone more knowledgeable comes around.
dw, browswer problem, it doesn’t show the entire stuff to edit the theme :)
There is a link to customize in the upper right of your page when you are logged in. That get you to this.
