If weed is illegal why aren't bongs illegal?

Because smoking isn’t illegal.

Theoretically you can use it to smoke legal substances. Theoretically.

The same reason ski masks aren’t illegal even though robbing banks is illegal

The head shops in my area have prominently displayed signs saying that their wares are for tobacco use only.

well, you cant really prove what its going to be used for, and there is nothing wrong with its raw materials. plastic, wood, metal etc… i imagine it would be quite hard to word any laws that outlaw bongs without you being able to find a loop hole.

and if you want to outlaw things that could be used to smoke weed, and you follow the path all the way down, you would have all kinds of other things you would need to outlaw. matches, lighters, pipes, owning flint or sticks, rolling papers etc..

Personally, I love my water pipe. I smoke oiled tobacco out of it, only. I have plenty of friends who would rather use it for other things, but they are all well aware that I won’t allow it. I don’t smoke weed. I just enjoy a nice tobacco. Cigars are loverly too.

Bongs are illegal here. It’s ridiculous.

It’s like banning wine glasses to stop people from drinking.

In other news, a lot of people actually do use them as decorations or to smoke tobacco.

@uberbatman It certainly does. Asthmatics have issues smoking from paper. Lucky thing they’re easy as all hell to make.

@uberbatman Hard to say. Our government is still mainly comprised of moronic old men. A bong probably seems like cutting-edge technology to them, so they may not have caught up.

I thought they were. I admit that I don’t keep up on drug usage but see a number of police reports that include “possession of drug paraphernalia” mentioned as charges in the arrest report.

People in the Bedouin use bongs for smoking, mostly drug free. Certainly in the tribe I stayed with.
Didn’t take to it myself – found it a really harsh smoke. Preferred a roll up.
