What in my multi-vitamins makes my teeth hurt?

Asked by kayyyyleigh (404points) January 13th, 2010

I can’t swallow pills, so I take the chew-able gummy vitamins, Vita Craves. Directions say take two a day.

But every time I have them, the teeth that I chew them with ache as if I had cavities in all of them. it only lasts for about a minute or so but I was still just wondering what would cause this?

any ideas? thanks(:

Hmm. My guess would be the Vitamin C. When I chew straight vit C, it hurts my teeth. That’s just my own experience though.

I agree with casheroo. Vitamin C is an acid. Chewing a lemon creates a similar experience. I also agree somewhat with @the100thmonkey. If you have a varied diet, you shouldn’t need any vitamins. Getting too much vitamins is not healthy in the long run.

its because there is a tiny bit of cementum exposed, the bit below your gums, which has nerves and can feel. You’re exposing it to an irritant. it’s not pathological but really uncomfortable. Be careful about pressure while brushing, pushing too hard can push the gums back and wear them away a bit even in young people.
