What's a good way to get over someone you were in love with?

Asked by babygirlbubbles (110points) January 13th, 2010

I just got out of a long relationship with a guy that had all my firsts except kissing. I was in love with him and i still am but we broke up. And i cant live life depressed forever, so how can I get over him? Without using a rebound, that would just crush me.

Anything that will take your mind off of him. Good books, going out with girlfriends, and give it time. It will hurt a little less as each week goes by.

Be social.
Or go work out.

Ive been doing a little bit of both and its slowly helping.

You said without rebound, so I can’t answer anymore lol. But it really does help to find someone else. Even if you go out and do stuff, you’re still going to think about it.

Nothing, but time sweetie! Angry music and ice cream helps too!

This isn’t really what you want, but an old Irish saying says, the best way to get over a man is to get under another. To be more serious volunteer where there are people who really need help. You’ll be happy to just be alive.

The best way to get over your old man is to get under a new one ;)

Kidding. Time, convince yourself that you can do better, and take it one day at a time.

First of all, cut him out of your life completely. No phone calls, texts, emails, following him on Twitter or Facebook or Fluther. Put everything that reminds you of him in a box in the back of your closet to revisit a few years down the road. Then, get out. Get acquainted with an old hobby you abandoned because you didn’t have time. Get back in shape if you fell out of it. Get plenty of exercise because it helps to lift your mood. Spend quality time with friends, take up new hobbies, explore new interests, and focus on enjoying life. Take it a day at a time and eventually you will forget’m and meet someone way cooler. Also, I love the movie French Kiss for dealing w/ a break up.

Its like i told the parents of a child thats dog had just been run over. mom and dad, you need a quick fix to replace your childs broken heart. the answer is a new puppy for him. his bad memories will soon fade and you will see his smile on his face again. they did this and it worked. same applies in a bad relationship. i know that a person is not a dog. i am not comparing each to each other. its an example. do not be a rebounder, but go searching for someone new. and when you do, forget the past and concentrate on the future with your new relationship. this is sometimes easier to say than done, but it will work out if you just give it some time and wear a smile.

It helps to keep busy and have a change of scene if you can. I broke off a relationship in my senior year of high school and felt like this for a few months. When I started art school, I was so busy meeting new people, exploring the city, and getting all my work done that I didn’t have time to think about my high school relationship, and not long after that I met someone who meant a lot to me. If you have a lot going on in your life, things will be easier for you.

Get on with your life, invest time in your friends and family and
in activities that build you up as a person.

It’s often said as a joke but a dear person once said it to me a few years back and I tried it to much relief… get with someone else. Seriously.

Time is really the only cure. Also its really hard if you have to be around the person a lot so perhaps limiting any time you spend around this person.

Just try to keep yourself as busy as possible! Get out & about with close friends, when you find yourself alone with your thoughts ‘ok‘ think of the good times but also the bad times too, remind yourself why the relationship came to an end in the first place & why you need to move on.
“Time is a great healer” be patient, the day will soon come when you realise that you weren’t thinking of him so much anymore, it just takes time! :-)
