Where can I host a chatroom for my coworkers and I?

Asked by RocketSquid (3486points) January 14th, 2010

I’d like to set up a chat room for work, something simple like an IRC chat room or an AOL style chat, but I’d like it to be “always available” (the room itself won’t disappear when everyone logs out) and I’d prefer it be something that can be accessed through Digsby, since it seems everyone and their brother uses that client.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

XHTML Live Chat. It works in the browser and is persistent. You do need a host with PHP and MySQL to use it. But it takes about 3 minutes to get it working.

edit :: here is my implementation of it.. Work in progress

You could also use a Jabber server—we have one set up @ work and it’s great. We’re using openfire with the spark client, but digsby supports jabber, so you could use that too.

@kikibirdjones I’m pretty sure it should be “Coworkers and I”. If it’s really “Coworkers and me”, I’ll be more than happy to change it.

Edit: It is me. I’ll edit the question.

I was just being nit picky to go along with one of my previous posts on the subject! No hard feelings!
