I reckon it could be Sherlock Holmes. Basil Rathbone would be my pick as the best performance.

Sherlock Holmes. I liked Jeremy Brett’s (sp?) performances.
Possibly Scrooge?
I liked Patrick Stewart’s portrayal.
I’m guessing it would be Charlie Chaplin’s “Tramp”. He figured in over 80 films (source).
I don’t know if he’s been played most in movies, but Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy is my favorite Darcy (and I’m a connoiseur.)
@Harp Interesting, I prefered Harold Lloyd in the golden age of comedy kings.
Harold Lloyd was my favorite, too.
Well Moe Howard has played “Moe” in over 200 films…. Not a favorite…
Santa Claus? that is a total guess, I have no idea
Sherlock Holmes was played most often. My favorite was Jeremy Brett.
Dracula comes in second here. Bela Lugosi is the ultimate Nosferatu.
@wilma I cannot find Stewart’s Scrooge on DVD!
@ucme and @Harp Harold Lloyd is a favorite of mine as well. Keaton was wonderful. Langdon was very nice. Chaplin was the cream of the crop.
